Job Overview

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, Capitol Campus Event Management & Scheduling, the Event Coordinator plans and executes various mid- and high-level events in support of the University's mission, and provides assistance to other staff members in the OEM for larger, more complex events happening both on the Capitol Campus and at locations off site. The event coordinator creates and manages event budgets, produces timelines, and works with the event sponsors on all aspects of the program. The event coordinator also manages and assists on an array of events including conferences, symposia, faculty events, Capitol Campus events, Law Reunion and Commencement and a wide variety of receptions, dinners and special events.

Work Interactions

This position reports directly to the Executive Director, Capitol Campus Event Management & Scheduling. The event coordinator manages a variety of events and programming across the capitol campus. The Event coordinator works closely with other members of the events and scheduling team and supports other members as needed under the direction of the Executive Director. As indicated above, this position is an integral part of the overall operations in special events. The person in this position will both work independently on numerous events and will support other team members as needed on a myriad of other large scale events. This position requires analytical judgment, competent decision-making skills, and the ability to prioritize competing demands in an office that plans hundreds of events during the year.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree and a minimum of 1-3 years of experience working in the event planning field is required

  • An undergraduate degree in marketing, public relations, communications or a related field is preferred

  • Familiarity with working in an academic or non-profit environment is preferred, along with the ability to work without close supervision

  • Must be able to interface with the public and maintain highly confidential information with professional discretion

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) are required

  • Familiarity with EMS, Social Tables, and Cvent is a plus.

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
