Patient Service Representative/Medical Assistant
Department/Location: Family Planning

Classification: Non-Exempt | Full Time
Requires: Medical assistant certification or at least one year work experience in healthcare
Open Door Health Services is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant at 333 S. Madison St. in Muncie, Indiana.
Overview
As an Open Door PSR/Medical Assistant, you will be part of a supportive, interdisciplinary team providing high-quality, compassionate care to individuals. Patient Service Representatives/Medical assistants perform a variety of patient care activities to support and assist the Family Planning clinic. No clinical experience is necessary if you are certified by an accredited medical assistant program.
As a Federally Qualified Health Center, Open Door Health Services provides comprehensive primary, urgent, preventive, and select specialty services and social support programs for individuals and families, regardless of their ability to pay. Our patients represent diverse backgrounds, life experiences, capacities, and orientations.

This position is located at 333 S. Madison St. in Muncie.
Roles amp; Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
  • Serve as the primary Patient Service Representative (PSR) by greeting patients, answering phones, scheduling appointments, managing check-in/check-out, and maintaining provider schedules.
  • Accurately register patient demographic, financial, and insurance information, verify eligibility, and ensure compliance with privacy and organizational policies.
  • Provide Medical Assistant (MA) support as needed, including rooming patients, preparing exam rooms, assisting providers with procedures, collecting lab specimens, and sterilizing instruments.
  • Support patient care by coordinating referrals, communicating lab results, processing prescription refill requests, and helping maintain efficient patient flow.
  • Maintain a professional, organized, and confidential environment while collaborating with clinical staff, supporting outreach events, and assisting other departments as needed.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills with the ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and provide compassionate, patient-centered care.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent. MA certification preferred
  • At least one year of work experience in healthcare clinic/office if not certified
  • CMA, RMA or CCMA Certification is preferred at hire, required to be maintained through ODHS post hire
  • CPR amp; first aid certification
