| Aspect | Event Sales Manager | Event Coordinator |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Focus | Generating sales and securing clients for events | Planning and executing event details |
| Required Skills | Sales, negotiation, client management | Organization, communication, logistics |
| Work Environment | Sales offices, client meetings, event venues | Event sites, vendor coordination, on-site management |
| Common Industry Usage | Hotels, event planning firms, venues | Event planning companies, corporate events, weddings |
The main difference is that an Event Sales Manager focuses on sales and client acquisition, while an Event Coordinator handles the planning and execution of the event itself. Both roles require strong communication skills, but their core responsibilities differ significantly.
An event sales manager supervises an event space for a hotel, concert venue, business building, or conference center. Your duties include being the chief contact for all customer inquiries and requests about the space, consulting with clients about every detail of an event to ensure that it runs smoothly, prospecting new sales, and managing revenue documentation. The qualifications for a career as an event sales manager include job experience in event planning and management, customer service skills, and, in some cases, a bachelor’s degree and certification. Other useful skills include strong scheduling and organizational awareness and the ability to market the space to new clients.
