Definition of Classification:
The (options from the Classification Title pool above) provides strategic leadership for student clubs and organizations, student organization policy and chartering (START @ REDLANDS), new student orientation (NSO), intramural programs, and campus-wide student engagement infrastructure. Reporting to the Dean of Student Campus Life, this position advances a cohesive, compliant, and developmentally grounded campus life ecosystem that supports student belonging, involvement, and leadership development in alignment with institutional priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Campus Life Infrastructure and Activation
- Lead the strategic design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the University’s student club and organization ecosystem including chartering, re-registration, compliance, and ongoing organizational support.
- Serve as steward and point of contact for student organization policy, manual, governance standards, and operational expectations, ensuring alignment with university policies, legal requirements, and best practices.
- Partner with campus departments to ensure student policies related to organizations, space use, reservations, and events are clearly communicated, consistently enforced, and student-centered.
- Partner with campus departments to amplify student engagement through the activation of reservable spaces on campus that bolster student life and identify barriers to access for co-curricular experiences.
- Lead and develop marketing campaigns for Campus Life that increase student engagement by providing leadership and strategic oversight on internal student affairs facing 25Live publication, social media platforms, Navigate communication channels, student mobile app liaison to Information Technology, oversight of divisional programmatic calendar, and on the ground marketing (digital signage and tabling)
- Support Campus Life programs related to commuter student engagement (commuter lounge and Metrolink partnerships), civic engagement (voter registration), and campus traditions.
- Provide partnership to Office for Inclusion and Community by attending student diversity-led clubs/organizations meetings, and support for Summer Bridge, and large-scale events and programs (e.g. campus traditions, signature events).
- Expand partnership with Residence Life and Housing and Office for Inclusion and Community to bolster student club/organization engagement and community belonging, including late-night and weekend programming (e.g. Hunsaker After Dark).
- Lead planning and implementation of the annual student Impact Awards.
- Serve on university committees related to student life, class-based initiatives and programs, space utilization, campus policy, commencement and student recognition ceremonies, and student experience.
Student Clubs & Organizations
- Provide oversight and leadership for all recognized student clubs and organizations and their advisors that include training structures, leadership transitions, and organizational sustainability.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive chartering and renewal process that emphasizes risk management, equity, leadership development, integrated student success and career development, community belonging, and institutional accountability.
- Design and deliver mandatory student organization trainings (advisor responsibilities, risk management, officer onboarding, fiscal responsibility, inclusive leadership, ongoing student club/organization steps for success workshop schedule).
New Student Orientation & Transition Programs
- Provide strategic direction for New Student Orientation (first year, transfer, and parents), ensuring a meaningful transition experience that integrates academic, social, and co-curricular engagement.
- Collaborate with campus partners to align orientation content with institutional learning outcomes, student success priorities, and Campus Life activation efforts.
- Oversee orientation staffing structures (orientation leaders), training models, assessment strategies, and continuous improvement cycles.
Intramurals & Recreation Activation
- Provide leadership and oversight for the intramural sports program ensuring inclusive access, risk mitigation, and alignment with wellness and belonging goals.
- Evaluate and evolve intramural offerings based on participation trends, student feedback, and campus capacity.
Supervision, Budget & Assessment
- Supervise graduate assistants and student volunteers within the campus life activation and student organizations portfolios.
- Serve as budget manager for assigned Campus Life accounts (student organizations), ensuring responsible stewardship and alignment with divisional priorities.
- Lead assessment efforts and the Student Engagement Platform related to student organization effectiveness, orientation outcomes, and student engagement metrics that drive cross-departmental integrated student-centered student success initiatives, student retention and persistence; use data to inform decision-making.
- Support Weeks of Welcome initiatives and programs, including coordination of the campuswide Student Involvement Fair.
- Serves as part of a Student Affairs on-call rotation team, including, support for student demonstrations, and participates in on-call training.
- Support divisional initiatives related to assessment, accreditation, and strategic planning.

Experience/Training/Education
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in student affairs, higher education leadership, college counseling, related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3-5 years of professional experience within higher education, student affairs, or related field.
- Experience mentoring/advising student organizations on a college campus.
- Substantive experience in event planning and execution, including event development, management, cross-departmental collaboration, and assessment.
- Demonstrated experience contributing to advancing a campus community culture of belonging.
- Experience supporting or coordinating marketing, communications, or outreach efforts for student programs, events, or organizations.
- Familiarity with using social media platforms and digital tools to promote programs, share information, and engage student audiences.
- Ability to collaborate on basic content creation (posts, flyers, announcements) that aligns with institutional branding and messaging.
- Strong verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform under pressure, relate positively to people, and motivate others to function as a fully participative member of a team.
- Working knowledge of student support service units on a college campus.
- Ability to interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze, and define the problem, draw valid conclusions, and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and a thorough knowledge of department and campus policies, procedures, and practices.
- Demonstrated capacity to interpret and enforce procedures and policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in student affairs, higher education, college counseling or related field
- Previous experience working within a Student Affairs division on a college campus, including advising student organizations.
- Experience delivering holistic student care.
- Demonstrated skills in leadership, hiring and supervision, group facilitation, advising, training, programming, community development, conduct processes, mediation, and crisis intervention.
- Experience mentoring/advising student organizations on a college campus.
- Understanding FERPA student records privacy regulations and other federal regulations. Experience writing policy and processing documents.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Communicate effectively and follow instructions, both verbally and in writing.
- Aptitude to learn new and evolving technology and recommend ways to improve position efficiency.
