Dumbarton Arts & Education (DAE) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing high-quality arts experiences and education programs to the DC community. Through performances, community engagement, and education initiatives. DAE fosters creativity, promotes education equity, access to the arts and love of lifelong learning.

Dumbarton Arts and Education's mission is to promote diversity, community, accessibility, and love of the arts and learning through our two core programs:

Inspired Child, DAE's early childhood education program, delivers arts-integrated learning experiences for young children, educators, and families. Through community workshops, classroom residencies, and professional development, Inspired Child uses the arts as a vehicle for learning.

Dumbarton Concerts' music series, in our 49th season, showcases established and emerging artists for multi-generational audiences and creates a community for patrons and music lovers.

Position Overview

The Program Manager plays a key operational and strategic role within Dumbarton Arts & Education (DAE), ensuring programs run efficiently, partnerships are effectively managed, and program impact is clearly measured and communicated. This position is primarily focused on DAE's early childhood education program, Inspired Child, while also contributing to broader DAE educational initiatives.

This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, systems-oriented, proactive, and able to take ownership of projects from planning through execution while managing data, logistics, and relationships simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities

Administration & Program Management (60%)

  • Lead administration of Inspired Child programs, including scheduling, logistics, budgets, payments, and contracts.
  • Issue contracts more than $200,000 for artist services. Oversee changes in schedule and fees, process payments, maintain accurate program data (classroom details, schedules) with weekly database updates.
  • Coordinate all workshop and event operations (virtual and in-person), including platform setup, venue coordination, catering, and artist payments.
  • Manage inventory and purchasing of books, curriculum materials, and program supplies in alignment with nonprofit best practices and budget guidelines.
  • Distribute educational materials for workshops and residencies.
  • Ensure compliance with partner and funder requirements, including DCPS and OSSE reporting.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with school leaders, teachers, and community partners.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for school residencies and professional development workshops, including attending in-person and virtual sessions.
  • Serve as the primary coordinator for a team of 25+ teaching artists, with overall staff supervision and evaluation managed by the Director of Education.

Development & Assessment (30%)

  • Design and implement teacher and student assessment processes, including post-data collection.
  • Analyze program data and produce quarterly reports on outcomes and impact.
  • Support grant management, including data tracking, research, and narrative development.
  • Maintain and manage databases (e.g., PatronManager or similar systems)
  • Collaborate with DAE staff on fundraising initiatives and earned revenue strategies.
  • Engage with stakeholders and support fundraising efforts at events.

Communications & Partnership Development (10%)

  • Support and cultivate partnerships with schools, nonprofits, and government agencies.
  • Contribute to marketing and outreach efforts, including:
  • Proofreading newsletters
  • Generating social media content ideas.
  • Managing Inspired Child social media accounts (shared across team)
  • Updating the website
  • Assist in distributing outreach materials and strengthening partner engagement
  • Stay informed on trends in early childhood education, arts integration, and education equity.
  • Participate in community events, professional development, and organizational initiatives.

General Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities to improve and streamline program systems and operations.
  • Support general administrative and office management tasks as needed.
  • Represent Inspired Child and DAE at events, including, but not limited to, attendance at a minimum of six weekend Dumbarton Concerts annually.
  • Collaborate with the entire DAE staff as a supportive team member, prioritizing achievement of the organization's mission
  • Support DAE administration, office coverage, rental events and grant reporting.
  • Qualifications
  • 35 years of experience in program management, nonprofit administration, education, or a related field
  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with data tracking, reporting, or program evaluation
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and independently drive projects forward
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Comfort working across both virtual platforms and in-person settings
  • Commitment to arts education, early childhood learning, and equity

Preferred:

  • Experience working with DC Public Schools (DCPS), Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), or similar systems
  • Familiarity with PatronManager database platform
  • Background in arts education and/or early childhood education
  • Access to reliable transportation for occasional on-site materials delivery
  • Personal artistic practice or experience as a teaching artist
