Job description

Job Title: Assistant Drama Director
Location: Grand Peak Academy
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Drama Director
Work Hours/Days: Part-Time, Seasonal; rehearsal, performance, and event days
Season Date: September-April
Hourly Wage: Hourly rate of $15.16 with a maximum of 115 hours for a total of $1750
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Drama Director with the planning, organization, and implementation of the school's drama program and productions.
  • Work with student performers under the guidance and direction of the Director to prepare for performances.
  • Support the Drama Director with casting, rehearsals, blocking, character development, and other production needs as assigned.
  • Demonstrate leadership by implementing and reinforcing the expectations, vision, and direction of the drama program.
  • Assist with preparing students for performances, including supporting memorization, staging, movement, and performance skills.
  • Attend all scheduled rehearsals, performances, meetings, and other required drama-related events.
  • Assist with the setup, organization, and takedown of props, costumes, sets, equipment, and performance spaces.
  • Help supervise students during rehearsals, performances, transitions, and other drama-related activities.
  • Assist with maintaining a positive, respectful, inclusive, and collaborative environment for all student participants.
  • Support communication with students, families, school staff, and community members as directed by the Drama Director.
  • Lead rehearsals or supervise students in extenuating circumstances when the Director may not be present.
  • Assist with other duties related to the drama program and productions as assigned by the Drama Director or school administration.
Position Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience in theater, drama, performing arts, education, or youth programming preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of theater production, performance, and/or drama instruction.
  • Experience working with students 3rd-8th grade preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of individuals.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment for student performers.
  • Ability to provide appropriate supervision and maintain positive behavior expectations.
  • Willingness to support various aspects of a theatrical production, including rehearsals, performances, costumes, props, sets, and backstage responsibilities.
  • Adherence to all GPA policies, including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, Family Handbook, and all applicable school and board policies.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to traverse performance, rehearsal, classroom, and backstage spaces indoors and/or outdoors.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move equipment or materials as needed during rehearsals and performances.
  • Must be able to participate in rehearsals and performances that may require extended periods of standing or activity.
