Job description

Serve as the voice of student government by promoting ASUAF initiatives, engaging with the student body, and strengthening communication across campus. The Student Government Events & Marketing Director works closely with the ASUAF Senate, university departments, and student organizations to share important information, highlight student government accomplishments, and encourage student involvement through outreach, marketing, and event planning. This is an excellent opportunity to build leadership, communication, marketing, event planning, and creative problem-solving skills while making a lasting impact on student engagement at UAF.
The Student Government Events & Marketing Director serves as the primary communicator for the student government by promoting its initiatives, events, and accomplishments to the student body. This position manages the organization's public image through social media, marketing materials, and campus outreach while working closely with student government leaders to ensure students stay informed and engaged. The Student Government Events & Marketing Director also plays a key role in planning, organizing, and promoting student government events, collaborating with campus partners to increase participation and create meaningful opportunities for student involvement. The Director develops communication strategies, creates promotional connections, and helps strengthen connections between student government and the campus community. The role offers valuable experience in marketing, communications, event planning, leadership, creativity, and public engagement while helping increase transparency and student involvement.
The Layout Editor works closely with editors, writers, photographers, advertisers, and campus partners to produce each publication while balancing multiple deadlines and maintaining a high level of accuracy. This position also requires professional communication skills to coordinate advertising placements, answer client questions, and work effectively with local businesses and campus organizations. Previous customer service, sales, marketing, or advertising experience is beneficial but not required. The ideal candidate is dependable, adaptable, able to work independently, and contributes positively to a collaborative newsroom environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must be enrolled as a UA student taking a minimum of 6 credits per semester with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or a newly enrolled student.
Position Details:
This position is located on the University of Alaska campus in Fairbanks. This is a part-time, student assistant position, starting rate of pay is $17.00 per hour.
