Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION
CUSTODIAN
Contract Period: Year-round position, 40 hours/week, non-exempt (nights)
Supervisor: Custodial and Event Manager
Qualifications: High School diploma, or equivalent combination of experience and education. No previous experience is required. Good physical condition is required.
Duties:
  • Perform regular daily cleaning/vacuuming of all public, office, and classroom areas, including restrooms, as assigned.
  • Lock and check all doors and windows.
  • Assist with setting up events.
  • Assist in moving furniture and supplies.
  • Mop, wash, and wax floors.
  • Make simple repairs as assigned.
  • Report all situations beyond ability to control to the Custodial and Event Manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Custodial and Event Manager.
  • Complete additional assignments delegated by the Facilities Director, which may involve outdoor tasks on school premises, such as picking up litter, removing trash receptacles, and shoveling snow.

HAZARDS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Occasional heavy lifting of cleaning equipment, furniture, boxes, etc., ranging up to 50 lbs.
  • Pushing & pulling heavy equipment, such as auto scrubber, wet/dry vacuum, and high-speed burnisher.
  • Work involves walking; climbing stairs; occasionally climbing ladders.
  • May be exposed to loud noise during equipment operation.
  • May be exposed to fumes from cleaning chemicals/compounds.
  • May be subject to slipping/falling when waxing/washing floors.
  • May be subject to constant twisting motion at the waist due to hand mopping and sweeping.
  • May be exposed to blood and other body fluids during cleaning operations.
  • Includes working in warm or hot non-airconditioned buildings during the summer months.
