Job description

Summary

The Non-Emergency Medical Transport (NEMT) Operator is responsible for providing local transportation to patients to increase community access to medical care. Riders may be limited by physical or mental ability or lack of appropriate independent means of transportation - the NEMT Operator ensures a safe ride and courteous interaction to all patients who require use of the shuttle service. The NEMT Operator will provide basic medical support as needed to patients to ensure well-rounded care and intervention when required.

Job Description:

Baptist Health is looking for a full-time Non-emergency Medical Transport Operator to join our EMS team at Baptist Health Hardin, 200 Cardinal Drive, Elizabethtown, KY!

  • Operates the vehicle in a safe manner; picks up and delivers riders to the correct destination.
  • Complies with all traffic safety rules and regulations. Informs supervisor of any unusual situations or accidents immediately.
  • Follows established schedules, adjusts schedules to meet unanticipated changes, and determines safest and most efficient pickup and delivery routes.
  • Drives specially equipped van to deliver patients to various destinations; ensures that wheelchair lifts and tie down equipment are properly operated; ensures riders are delivered to appointments in a timely manner.
  • Assists riders entering and exiting the vehicle and maintains a courteous, helpful demeanor.
  • Maneuvers patients into wheelchair, through hospital and destination property safely.
  • Properly secures patient and wheelchair into vehicle.
  • Offers basic emergency intervention (CPR, First Aid, AED, etc.) and minimal preventive medical interventions (assisting with oxygen tanks, adjusting seated position, etc.) when necessary.
  • Acts in the event of an emergency to render first aid to patients transported.
  • Inspects and maintains vehicle daily for cleaning and safety issues.
  • Ensures proper vehicle maintenance and report any concerns appropriately.
  • Maintains accurate logs per required standards.
  • Completes daily vehicle checklists.
  • Maintains appropriate fuel and fluid levels in vehicle.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must obtain BLS from AHA within 6 months of hire.
