Job description

About Accountable
Accountable is a tech-enabled behavioral health company helping people recover from substance use and co-occurring mental health challenges through human connection, coaching, peer support, accountability, and evidence-informed care. We partner with individuals, families, health plans, and healthcare organizations to help members stay engaged in recovery and improve long-term outcomes.
We are launching Principal Illness Navigation - Peer Support services for members with serious behavioral health and substance use conditions. We are seeking part-time contract psychiatrists to perform initiating visits, supervise peer support services, and support a compliant, high-quality care model.
Role Overview
Accountable is hiring part-time, remote psychiatrists as 1099 independent contractors. Candidates may be licensed in one or more of the following states:
  • Texas
  • North Carolina
  • Florida
  • Tennessee

Candidates may be licensed in one state or multiple states. Multi-state licensure is preferred but not required.
This is a flexible contract role focused on clinical initiation, medical necessity documentation, care plan oversight, supervision of peer support services, and clinical escalation when needed. This is not a traditional high-volume medication management position.
The psychiatrist will serve as the initiating and supervising practitioner for assigned members in the state or states where they are licensed and credentialed.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform telehealth initiating visits for eligible members
  • Assess and document serious high-risk behavioral health or substance use conditions
  • Determine clinical appropriateness and medical necessity for Principal Illness Navigation - Peer Support services
  • Create, approve, or update member-specific care/navigation plans
  • Supervise peer support and care navigation services delivered by Accountable team members
  • Review documentation to support quality, compliance, and medical necessity
  • Be available for clinical consultation and escalation when needed
  • Participate in case reviews, audits, protocol development, payer meetings, or quality improvement work as requested
  • Collaborate with Accountable's operations, compliance, billing, and peer support teams
  • Maintain timely, accurate, payer-appropriate documentation
  • Support a compassionate, recovery-oriented, human-centered care model
Required Qualifications
  • MD or DO with board certification or board eligibility in Psychiatry
  • Active, unrestricted medical license in at least one of the following states: TX, NC, FL, or TN
  • Ability to provide telehealth services to members in the state or states where licensed
  • Medicare enrollment eligibility, with no sanctions, exclusions, or restrictions
  • Experience treating substance use disorders, serious mental illness, or co-occurring behavioral health conditions
  • Comfort working with peer support specialists, recovery coaches, care navigators, or similar team members
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, team-based care model
  • Commitment to ethical, compliant, patient-centered care
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active licenses in multiple target states
  • Addiction psychiatry or addiction medicine experience
  • Experience with Medicare, care management, behavioral health integration, or peer support programs
  • Experience supervising interdisciplinary behavioral health teams
  • Familiarity with telehealth, payer-facing clinical programs, or value-based care
  • Experience working with individuals in recovery from substance use disorders
  • Interest in helping build and refine a scalable clinical program
Compensation
This is a 1099 independent contractor role with a guaranteed minimum monthly retainer.
Compensation includes:
  • $1,000 minimum monthly retainer
  • $125 per completed initiating visit
  • $10 per active member per month for supervision and chart review
  • $250 per hour for escalation calls, protocol work, audits, payer meetings, or case reviews

The monthly retainer is intended to compensate for baseline availability, administrative coordination, and participation in the program. Additional compensation is based on completed visits, active supervised members, and hourly clinical or administrative work as needed.
Time Commitment
This is a flexible, part-time 1099 contract role. The time commitment will depend on member volume in the psychiatrist's licensed state or states.
Expected responsibilities may include:
  • Brief telehealth initiating visits
  • Ongoing chart review and supervision
  • Clinical escalation availability
  • Periodic case review or quality meetings
  • Documentation and protocol support as needed
Work Location
Remote, telehealth-based.
Candidates must be licensed in at least one of the following states:
  • Texas
  • North Carolina
  • Florida
  • Tennessee
