JOB SUMMARY:
The Facility Operations Manager serves as the day-to-day lead for the upkeep, maintenance, readiness, and physical operation of the Cleveland Monsters Practice Facility in Strongsville, Ohio, the current practice facility of the Cleveland Monsters. The facility includes approximately 94,000 square feet, two sheets of ice, multiple locker rooms, hospitality space, and surrounding grounds that must consistently support Monsters hockey operations as well as AAA, high school, youth, and community programming. This role is responsible for inside and outside building upkeep, ice care, equipment oversight, locker room maintenance, external grounds maintenance, vendor coordination, and execution of safe, clean, reliable daily operations. The strongest candidate will be highly hands-on, detail-oriented, and dependable, with the judgment to spot issues early and the discipline to keep the building consistently clean, safe, and operational. Success in the role requires strong execution across ice care, maintenance response, locker room readiness, equipment reliability, and outside grounds upkeep so the facility performs at a professional standard every day.
This role is based on-site at the practice facility in Strongsville and requires active daily work throughout the interior and exterior of the property. Evening, weekend, holiday, and weather-response work will be required based on the facility calendar, maintenance needs, and seasonal operating demands.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facility operations and building upkeep
  • Lead the day-to-day physical operation of the practice facility, ensuring the building is clean, functional, safe, and event-ready for all scheduled activities.
  • Oversee the upkeep of all interior spaces, including rinks, locker rooms, team areas, restrooms, public areas, offices, storage rooms, hospitality spaces, and other back-of-house support areas.
  • Manage the external appearance and condition of the property, including parking lots, sidewalks, entrances, landscaping, trash removal, snow and ice response, and general grounds maintenance.
  • Conduct regular facility walk-throughs and inspections to identify repair needs, safety concerns, deferred maintenance items, and presentation issues, and ensure timely follow-up.

Ice care and rink operations
  • Oversee daily ice care on both sheets, including resurfacing coordination, edge work, ice quality monitoring, painting support, and maintenance of hockey readiness standards for professional and community users.
  • Monitor rink systems and related operating conditions to help maintain consistent ice quality and support reliable use for practices, clinics, training camp, and external rentals.
  • Maintain boards, glass, benches, penalty boxes, nets, flooring transitions, matting, and related rink equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Coordinate pre-event and post-event conversion needs tied to practices, camps, community events, and seasonal programming.

Equipment oversight and preventative maintenance
  • Maintain oversight of facility equipment and machinery, including ice maintenance equipment, tools, mechanical systems, housekeeping equipment, and other operational assets required to run the building.
  • Develop and execute preventative maintenance schedules for key equipment and building systems, maintaining service logs, inspection records, and repair documentation.
  • Troubleshoot day-to-day building and equipment issues and coordinate repairs with internal resources, outside vendors, and specialized contractors as needed.
  • Support inventory management for maintenance supplies, repair parts, janitorial stock, locker room supplies, and other operational materials required for uninterrupted building use.

Locker room and team space oversight
  • Ensure all locker rooms and team support spaces are properly cleaned, maintained, stocked, and prepared for Monsters hockey operations and other scheduled users.
  • Monitor the condition of showers, plumbing fixtures, benches, storage, laundry-related areas, flooring, and other locker room assets, escalating repair needs quickly.
  • Coordinate room turns, access, and readiness based on daily schedules so team, youth, and community users have a professional and dependable experience.

Staff and vendor coordination
  • Supervise part-time operations, maintenance, and ice crew staff assigned to daily building coverage, ensuring schedules and task assignments align with the facility calendar.
  • Train staff on standard operating procedures, safety practices, cleaning standards, equipment use, and game-day or event-day readiness expectations.
  • Coordinate third-party vendors supporting building systems, janitorial work, grounds, waste removal, security, and specialty maintenance services.
  • Partner closely with the General Manager on staffing priorities, operational planning, capital needs, and execution of corrective actions tied to inspections or service issues.

Safety, compliance, and readiness
  • Help enforce safety standards, emergency procedures, and building policies to protect athletes, staff, guests, renters, and contractors.
  • Support compliance with applicable facility, insurance, and operational requirements through routine checks, record-keeping, and timely issue resolution.
  • Maintain readiness for nights, weekends, weather events, and high-use periods, responding to urgent building issues as needed to keep operations running.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's degree or bachelor's degree in facility management, sports management, building operations, engineering technology, or a related field preferred.
  • 3 or more years of progressive experience in facility operations, rink operations, maintenance management, or venue operations.
  • Hands-on knowledge of building maintenance, housekeeping standards, equipment oversight, and preventative maintenance practices.
  • Experience in ice rink operations, ice care, or sports facility operations strongly preferred.
  • Ability to supervise part-time or shift-based staff and coordinate multiple vendors in a fast-paced operating environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call schedules tied to facility use and weather conditions.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience in a multi-sheet ice facility or practice facility serving professional, amateur, or youth hockey users.
  • Familiarity with locker room operations, rink changeovers, and seasonal grounds maintenance in Northeast Ohio conditions.
  • Experience supporting startup repairs, capital refresh work, or transition operations in a newly acquired or newly managed facility.
  • Exposure to vendor management, work-order tracking, and maintenance documentation systems.
