Job description

Job Summary

The Facilities Engineering Department is responsible for maintaining the site infrastructure in a safe, compliant, and reliable state to support cGMP manufacturing operations. The department oversees the maintenance and reliability of building systems, structural and architectural components, biotech process and laboratory equipment, HVAC, plant and clean utility systems, electrical power distribution and lighting, and facility automation systems.

As an essential employee, the Facilities Engineering Technician III - Electrician serves as the primary site electrician, providing technical expertise and ownership for all facility electrical systems. This role is responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and modification of electrical infrastructure to ensure safe, reliable, and uninterrupted facility operations. The technician supports 24/7 site operations by responding to electrical issues, minimizing downtime, and ensuring compliance with applicable electrical codes, safety standards, and cGMP requirements.

This position independently performs and coordinates preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical distribution systems, lighting, emergency power systems, motor controls, and associated equipment. Responsibilities include diagnosing complex electrical problems, implementing effective repairs, identifying opportunities for system improvements, creating and managing work orders, and maintaining accurate maintenance documentation.

As the site's electrical subject matter expert, the Technician III - Electrician collaborates with Facilities, Engineering, Manufacturing, EHS, contractors, and external vendors to support capital projects, equipment installations, inspections, and regulatory compliance activities. The role requires sound technical judgment, the ability to prioritize competing demands, and the initiative to independently resolve complex electrical issues while recognizing when additional engineering or vendor support is required.

The successful candidate must be capable of working independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating a strong commitment to safety, reliability, and continuous improvement while adapting effectively to changing operational priorities and performing other duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities

Perform corrective and preventative maintenance of architectural systems,

structural/civil systems, mechanical systems, electrical systems, plumbing

systems, process equipment and utility equipment training on and following

approved procedures where applicable.

Troubleshoot and repair facilities, equipment, and systems, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic circuits (motors, pumps, compressors, boilers, chillers, and purified and domestic water systems) using manuals, SOPs, specifications, safety procedures, LOTO and other workplace aids.

Provide recommendations and assist with the implementation of methods, procedures, and techniques for improving maintenance of existing/new systems as well as assisting with system failure root cause investigations.

Prepare documents to include maintenance, quality, and other documents/reports as deemed appropriate following good documentation practices potentially inclusive of deviations, corrective actions preventative actions (CAPA), change controls, and SOP revisions. Monitor the work of contracted suppliers and service providers.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a technical, vocational, or apprenticeship program in Electrical Technology, Industrial Electrical Systems, or a related trade is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an industrial electrician or facilities maintenance electrician in a manufacturing, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or similarly regulated industrial environment, or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant experience.
  • Associate degree (A.S./A.A.) in Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, state electrical license/certification, or a related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial electrical systems, including power distribution, motor control centers
  • (MCCs), transformers, switchgear, lighting systems, variable frequency drives (VFDs), emergency power systems, and control circuits.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, electrical safety practices, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Experience supporting facility utility systems, including HVAC, boilers, compressed air, clean utilities, and refrigeration systems is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a cGMP pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other regulated manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
