Job description

Job Summary
Holy Spirit Catholic Church is seeking faith-filled, committed PSR Teachers to serve in our Parish School of Religion program. PSR Teachers play a vital role in handing on the Catholic faith to children in grades 1-8 who attend public or non-Catholic schools. Teachers will prepare and deliver engaging weekly lessons rooted in Scripture, Church teaching, and the Sacraments while helping students grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
Job Responsibilities
  • Teach weekly evening PSR classes during the academic year (typically one evening per week).
  • Prepare age-appropriate, engaging lessons aligned with Archdiocesan guidelines and parish curriculum.
  • Foster a welcoming, respectful classroom environment rooted in Catholic values.
  • Incorporate prayer, Scripture, Church teachings, and liturgical seasons into instruction.
  • Communicate with parents regarding student progress and important program updates.
  • Collaborate with the DRE and fellow catechists to support sacramental preparation and special events (e.g., Reconciliation, First Communion, Confirmation).
  • Attend required training sessions, meetings, and safe environment workshops.
  • Serve as a positive role model of Catholic faith, service, and discipleship.

Job Requirements
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
  • Passion for teaching the faith and working with children
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Previous teaching or catechetical experience preferred, but not required
  • Completion of (or willingness to complete) Protecting God's Children training and other Archdiocesan safe environment requirements
  • Willingness to follow curriculum guidelines and participate in catechist formation
