Job description


The Senior Ethicist role contributes to the mission and vision of FMOLHS by leading a regional approach to Ethics Services across assigned markets, including ethics education and consultation coverage assigned hospitals, ambulatory care sites, clinic sites, ministries, and behavioral health services. Collaborates with Vice President of Ethics and Theology, SVP Mission, and senior and high-level leaders throughout the health system on a routine basis to support a wide range of initiatives in the delivery of Catholic healthcare to all the communities served.
Responsibilities
Strategy Alignment
Ensures implementation of strategies aligned with best practice standards for Catholic Health Ethics and clinical and organizational ethics;
Leads multiple ethics committees;
Leads initiatives for compliance and regulatory standards related to ethics and patient rights; Supports increasing complexity of ethics services, including consultation demand, partnerships, and regulatory requirements across assigned regions.
  1. Community Engagement

Engages with internal and external leaders, providers, managers, patients, and community members.
Responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining processes for clinical ethics consultation, organizational ethics deliberation and discernment, ethics education and ethics-related-policy development and outcomes for assigned regions.
  1. Uphold Standards

Works directly with the Vice President of Ethics and Theology to ensure that all services within assigned regions are aligned with the "Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services" and national standards for clinical and Catholic healthcare ethics.
Supports national ethics initiatives as appropriate for FMOLHS.
  1. Collaboration

Provides support and collaboration with contracted ethics providers; educational and consultation support to graduate medical education; and on-boarding of new providers as requested.
Meets with the local ordinary regularly in each region in collaboration with the local mission leader
and VP of Ethics and Theology and SVP of mission to build and strengthen the relationships, or address concerns which may arise, between the local diocese and health ministry.
Qualifications
3 years experience in Academic Medical Center including a working knowledge of the Ethical & Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services and the Teaching of the Roman Catholic Church Doctorate of Philosophy or related field preferred.
