Job description

About the role
Casa Esperanza Inc. is seeking an on-call cook to cover holidays, vacations, and unexpected call-outs. The kitchen assistant role is a per diem position. Typical hours are 6am-2pm depending on program needs. Hours are not guaranteed. The kitchen assistant plans and prepares three healthy meals per day for approximately 75 individuals. They also ensure that a variety of healthy snacks are available to residents throughout the day. It requires availability from Sunday through Monday from 6am to 2pm.
What you'll do
  • Skill in cooking and preparing a variety of foods.
  • Knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods, techniques, and quality standards.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate the purchase of food, supplies, and equipment needed to prepare 3 meals per day and make healthy snacks available for up to 75 individuals.
  • Ability to safely use all kitchen equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to accept receipt of goods and supplies.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, prepare reports, and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to manage others in a kitchen environment, ensuring safety and quality meal preparation.

Education/Training required:
  • At least 2 years of food preparation and kitchen management experience, preparing meals for 75+ guests per meal.
  • SERV Safe certified or willingness to obtain upon hire
  • Experience preparing Latin American cuisine is required.
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED required
  • CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
  • Participates in regular training with regard to nutrition and healthy meal preparation

The pay range for this role is:
22 - 24 USD per hour (Operations)
