The Department of Animal Science is the largest academic program in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and provides academic instruction to over 750 undergraduate students and 100 graduate students. The Department also is a leader in extension and engagement programs to farmers, allied industry and the public, and conducts internationally recognized research into the nutrition, genetic reproductive, health and well-being of domesticated animals.

The North Carolina State University Department of Animal Science is seeking a Swine Extension Program Associate. This position will be primarily responsible for working with NCSU scientists to develop and deliver swine educational opportunities throughout North Carolina and beyond Specific extension programming efforts include organizing, managing, and assisting with NCSU Swine Innovation Forum, NC Pork Conference, NC State Fair Swine Show, regional swine meetings and the development of electronic educational materials for stakeholders.
This position will lead outreach & producer & public communications efforts, including newsletters, a swine extension website, and social media platforms. The position will generate and collate extension impact data and reports. The position will also assist with the management of applied research projects on both university and industry-owned pig farms relative to project data collection, validation, summary, and dissemination of reports.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Process daily requests for educational assistance from stakeholders and county staff
  • Use technology and web-based data systems to complete work assignments
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Complete daily work to meet established deadlines for swine research projects on university and industry-owned swine farms.
  • Disseminate program information at Swine Research Forum, NC Pork Conference, Regional Swine Conferences, and NC State Fair.
  • Collect research data using data management system to maintain, manage, and monitor research project data and compile summary reports based on specific requests
  • Collect research data, organize and disseminate reports to faculty
  • Respond to requests from faculty to report factual information and provide verbal and written reports

Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor's degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

  • Experience in swine production and swine extension programs
Required License or Certification
