What You'll Do

Principal's Global Equity team is searching for a Research Associate to support the needs of our senior Research Analysts on the Healthcare team. This candidate will help augment our commitment to deep fundamental sector expertise via highly differentiated and timely fundamental equity research. We are focused on hiring an exceptional candidate with a sincere, deep interest in the sector and overall passion for investing who can demonstrate the ability to earn one’s own coverage over time.

Role Overview

Under the direction of senior team members, assist with equity research on Healthcare equities across various subsectors, market capitalizations, and geographies. Assist in various diligence processes to help form and enhance investment recommendations. Analyze and synthesize researched data and presentation of trends and ideas which assist in our investment decision-making process. Interact with company management and industry experts to augment our differentiated views. Frequently present research findings and affiliated recommendations through highly articulate written and verbal communication.


Who You Are
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1+ years equity research experience in the Healthcare sector (more than two is preferred)
  • High proficiency with financial statement analysis and fluent in overall financial accounting
  • Outstanding knowledge of financial modeling, quantitative financial analysis, statistics and accounting expertise
  • Possess the ability to synthesize data and articulate findings through exemplary presentation and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Entrepreneurial mindset; self-starter with a desire to earn option to build out individual coverage within our Healthcare dedicated team

Travel as needed for conferences, management meetings, site visits, etc.

Skills That Will Help You Stand Out
  • More than two years equity research experience; buy side preferable
  • At least 1 year of Healthcare sector specific research / investment experience
  • Master’s degree in a scientific discipline, MBA, CFA candidates all preferred
  • Private transaction experience an added benefit; mandatory background is primarily focused in public equities
  • Knowledge of various financial applications: FactSet, Bloomberg, AlphaSense, etc.
  • Knowledge of various AI tools, including experience with agents, cowork tools, etc.   Should be comfortable integrating AI with MS Office applications.

Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$89300 - $152400 / year
Salary Details

The following locations are the market-specific salary ranges across the offices this position may reside in. Candidates will be evaluated to determine the appropriate job level based on their skills and experience. 

Research Associate with a minimum of one year of experience:

Des Moines, IA: $89,300 – $120,650 / year

Denver/Chicago: $103,400 – $139,700 / year

Seattle/New York City: $112,800 – $152,400 / year

Research Associate with a minimum of three years experience:

Des Moines, IA: $110,200 – $148,200 / year

Denver/Chicago: $127,600 – $171,600 / year

Seattle/New York City: $139,200 – $187,200 / year


Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don't accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
