Job description

Appvion is seeking a Reliability Engineer to help improve equipment performance, reliability, and overall effectiveness in our Appleton manufacturing operations. In this hands‑on engineering role, you will partner closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, craftspeople, and machine operators to identify reliability opportunities, lead improvement initiatives, support preventative and predictive maintenance programs, and help drive long‑term equipment performance. What You’ll Do
  • Provide reliability‑engineered solutions that improve overall equipment effectiveness and support long‑term equipment performance.
  • Enhance equipment reliability through Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), preventative maintenance, and predictive maintenance practices.
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, and support the execution of maintenance and equipment‑reliability activities.
  • Provide engineering leadership for continuous improvement projects, equipment upgrades, and safety‑related change management activities.
  • Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, craftspeople, and machine operators to troubleshoot equipment issues and improve performance.
  • Translate critical‑to‑customer quality metrics into functional design and equipment improvement opportunities.
  • Work with cross‑functional equipment improvement teams to assess equipment performance, countermeasure recurring problems, and identify reliability concerns.
  • Track monthly breakdown metrics for critical equipment and use data to prioritize reliability focus areas.
  • Manage reliability‑engineering work backlog for assigned areas.
  • Support root cause analysis efforts, including detailed equipment‑failure analysis and short‑ and long‑term corrective action plans.
  • Assist with maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution to support successful work order completion.
  • Contact, interview, and request bids from vendors, suppliers, engineering consultants, contractors, and other external resources as needed.
  • Develop and manage capital and expense projects, including project details, justification data, procurement needs, spare parts, and bills of materials.
  • Recommend and implement replacement or innovative technologies that improve reliability, capability, efficiency, and equipment obsolescence.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the labor agreement to support contract commitments and effective partnership in a union environment.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in reliability engineering, maintenance engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related technical role.
  • Strong understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance concepts, tools, and practices.
  • TPM and Lean training preferred.
  • Familiarity with modern maintenance techniques, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, problem‑solving, and root‑cause identification skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow‑through.
  • Ability to work responsibly and independently while using sound judgment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with CMMS databases, D365 ERP, and AutoCAD preferred.
