Job description

Operations Manager

Ryerson is seeking an Operations Manager to lead and oversee the management and strategic operations of our warehouse functions. In this role, you will formulate strategies, enforce company policies, and enhance performance through effective data management and financial reviews. Your expertise will be crucial in identifying trends and assessing opportunities to improve processes and execution, ensuring our operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Roles and responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing a team of front-line supervisors in the planning and execution of day-to-day operations ensuring a focus on a safety-first culture
  • Managing staffing, supply, and equipment needs based on forecasted volume
  • Mentoring, developing, and expanding talent and performance initiatives throughout the location
  • Identifying and creating continuous process improvement opportunities
  • Driving strategic initiatives as required
  • Overseeing machine and building maintenance to ensure preventative maintenance programs are in place to minimize downtime
  • Ensuring warehouse staff are trained in health, safety, and environmental practices pertinent to their positions as required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA) and company policies
  • All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Requirements include:

  • College degree preferred or High School Diploma with 7 plus years of manufacturing experience
  • 5 plus years of warehouse operations experience, preferably in the metal processing/distributing industry
  • Knowledge of ISO policies, procedures, and work instructions as outlined by ISO 9001:2008
  • Knowledge of statistical process control, warehousing, metal handling, equipment operation, and transportation regulations and procedures
  • SAP experience preferred
  • MS Office experience (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, and leadership abilities
  • Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement initiatives e.g. lean manufacturing, 5S, LEAN, 6-sigma etc.
