A Day in the Life of a Training Specialist - Patient Access
The Training Specialist leads onboarding, education, and competency development for Patient Access scheduling and registration staff, ensuring consistent, accurate, and patient-centered workflows. This role serves as the department's expert on EPIC scheduling and registration functions, creating training materials, delivering instruction, and supporting staff through system updates and process changes. Success requires monitoring competency, providing individualized coaching, and identifying opportunities to improve performance, data integrity, and operational efficiency. The position works closely with Patient Access leaders, providers, and cross-functional teams to align training initiatives with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and quality standards. This is a collaborative role that balances classroom instruction, one-on-one coaching, workflow optimization, and ongoing education to support continuous learning across the department.

Education and Experience
Required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of healthcare scheduling, patient access, registration, or clinic operations experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and healthcare experience may be considered
  • Demonstrated proficiency with EPIC EMR system and scheduling workflows
Preferred
  • Associate degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Education, Health Information Management, or related field
  • Minimum of one (1) year of training, onboarding, coaching, or staff development experience
  • Experience developing training materials, standard work documentation, and competency assessments
  • Knowledge of healthcare operations, patient access functions, and regulatory requirements
