Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) to work primarily as a Circulating RN across Deaconess Gateway and Deaconess Midtown. The OR RN will provide direct and indirect nursing care throughout the surgical continuum, including preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative patient care.

The ideal candidate will have strong circulating experience, current Epic experience, and demonstrated neuro surgery experience. The OR primarily handles general and orthopedic procedures, with additional exposure to orthopedic trauma, vascular, and neurological cases.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room experience.
  • At least 1 previous travel assignment required.
  • Current AHA BLS certification.
  • Active Indiana or Compact RN license.
  • Associate degree or nursing certificate required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Epic experience required.
  • Neuro experience required.
  • Strong circulating experience required.
  • Must be comfortable working at both Deaconess Gateway and Deaconess Midtown.
  • Must be adaptable, resilient, collaborative, and able to manage changing assignments.
Core Responsibilities
  • Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care to surgical patients.
  • Perform circulating RN responsibilities throughout surgical procedures.
  • Complete preoperative assessments and preparation.
  • Monitor patients and maintain safety throughout the intraoperative period.
  • Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and other members of the surgical team.
  • Maintain accurate surgical documentation in Epic.
  • Ensure appropriate supplies, equipment, medications, and implants are available.
  • Maintain sterile technique and infection-prevention standards.
  • Participate in surgical counts and specimen management.
  • Advocate for patient safety throughout the perioperative process.
  • Evaluate patient condition and communicate changes appropriately.
  • Assist with postoperative transition and handoff.
  • Follow hospital policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.
Surgical Experience

Neuro experience is a mandatory requirement for submission.

Schedule
  • 4x10-hour day shifts
  • Variable start times between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM
  • Monday–Friday
  • Weekends may be required based on staffing.
  • Holiday rotation as scheduled.
Call Requirements
  • On-call approximately 1x per week
  • Every 6th weekend
  • 30-minute response time required
  • Weeknight call begins after the scheduled shift and continues until the following morning.
  • Weekend call begins Friday after the scheduled shift and ends Monday at 7:00 AM.
  • Call-back may be required based on surgical needs.
Floating Requirements

The traveler must be willing to work at both:

  • Deaconess Gateway
  • Deaconess Midtown

The campuses are approximately 8 miles apart. Travelers are generally assigned to one campus based on skillset, but must remain flexible to work at either location.

Mid-shift floating may occur.

Travel & Local Policy
  • 40-mile radius rule: No local candidates.
  • The traveler must meet the applicable facility radius requirement at submission.
  • Travelers must be willing to float between both Deaconess campuses.
  • GSA hours are not guaranteed during orientation week.
