Summary: The Senior Commercial Account Manager interacts with clients on a day-to-day basis while creating and maintaining relationships with both client and carrier representatives. This individual will prepare applications, specifications and marketing strategy for new business as well as the renewals of assigned clients with little to no supervision from their Supervisor on difficult lines. This role requires the employee to take on the role of lead consultant and primary point of contact for clients. The Senior Account Manager may work on large, complex accounts with large premiums and multidimensional coverages.
Location: Indianapolis (Hybrid)
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for assigned commercial accounts and develop strong relationships with client decision-makers.
  • Conduct pre-renewal meetings, coverage reviews, and strategic planning discussions with clients and producers.
  • Lead renewal execution from exposure gathering and submission preparation through quote analysis, proposal preparation, and binding coordination.
  • Coordinate marketing efforts with carriers, wholesalers, brokers, and internal resources to obtain competitive coverage and pricing options.
  • Analyze quotations, carrier terms, coverage enhancements, exclusions, deductibles, and pricing alternatives for client presentation.
  • Negotiate coverage, pricing, and terms with carriers and wholesalers, escalating issues when needed.
  • Lead endorsement activity, policy changes, audits, certificates, binders, evidence requests, and policy delivery with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Review policies, endorsements, proposals, and client deliverables for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain accurate documentation within Epic and related systems to support service quality, workflow consistency, and E&O risk management.
  • Coordinate with claims resources to support client advocacy and resolution of claim-related issues when appropriate.
  • Find opportunities to cross-sell, up-sell, or introduce additional risk management resources and NFP solutions.
  • Mentor and train Account Managers, Account Coordinators, and other service team members; delegate work appropriately while maintaining account oversight.

Client & Carrier Relationship Expectations
  • Build trust with clients through proactive communication, sound coverage guidance, and timely follow-through.
  • Manage client expectations around renewal timelines, carrier requirements, exposure updates, and coverage decisions.
  • Serve as a technical resource for complex coverage questions and difficult service situations.
  • Build and maintain effective carrier and wholesaler relationships to support placement strategy and account outcomes.
  • Communicate professionally and clearly with clients, carriers, producers, claims advocates, and internal service team members.

Required Qualifications
  • Active Property & Casualty insurance license.
  • 7+ years of commercial insurance account management experience, preferably with middle market or complex commercial accounts.
  • Solid understanding of commercial property, general liability, commercial auto, workers compensation, umbrella/excess, professional liability, cyber, and executive risk coverages.
  • Experience managing renewal strategy, carrier submissions, coverage comparisons, client proposals, and implementation follow-up.
  • Ability to manage several priorities, deadlines, and client deliverables in a fast-paced service environment.
  • Strong written communication, verbal communication, negotiation, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Applied Epic or comparable agency management systems, carrier portals, and related workflow tools.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CIC, CPCU, CRM, ARM, CISR, or similar insurance designation.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff or coordinating a service team.
  • Experience supporting new business opportunities, prospect presentations, and finalist meetings.
  • Knowledge of alternative risk programs, captives, large deductibles, and hard-to-place risks.

Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
