Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Las Colinas is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team!

Medical Laboratory Scientist at Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Las Colinas: 

·       Medical Laboratory personnel conducts chemical, biological, bacteriological, serological and microscopic tests on patient specimens for diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of disease.

·       This involves a thorough knowledge of laboratory practice in order to correlate, interpret, evaluate and ensure the validity of patient results.

·       The Medical Director of the Laboratory delegates the performance of waived, moderate, and high complexity testing to laboratory personnel, in which, these duties are to be performed without direct supervision by following the established policies and procedures. Laboratory personnel provide technical, educational, and coordination support to ensure efficient point-of-care testing for all areas of the Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Las Colinas.

Required Skills

Education:

                                                                                                 

·  Associate of Science/Bachelors of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science or chemical, physical or biological sciences.

·  Must possess education credentials necessary to satisfy CLIA’88 personnel testing qualifications for high and moderate complexity testing.

Licensure/Certification:

                                                                              

·       Certification as MLT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP) or equivalent (AMT or NCA).


Required Experience

Specific Job Experience:

·       No experience required if certified or eligible to take a national registry/certification exam.

·       2 years of experience preferred.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Complies with Laboratory and Blood Bank policies to assure compliance with all regulation requirements.

·       Assists in maintenance and operation of the laboratory by assuring compliance with all laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory agency standards through pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing

·       Adheres to OSHA standards, Universal precaution procedures, and proper disposal of hazardous materials.

·       Participates in the collection of specimens for laboratory analysis either through direct patient contact or by advising nursing and medical staffs of the proper procedure for collection of such specimens.

·       Adheres to established methods, quality control procedures and preventative maintenance schedules.

·       Maintains instruments as required per schedule to ensure integrity and precision; documents maintenance.

·       Performs and reviews QC to validate test results. Follows defined protocol for investigating out-of control runs; implements and documents action to be taken.

·       Identifies unusual results or abnormalities, correlate laboratory data with diagnosis, identifies discrepancies and takes prompt, appropriate action to assure accuracy.

·       Reports result in a timely manner and notify proper personnel of all critical and alert values immediately. Documents these actions.

·       Coordinates processes for referring tests to outside contracted laboratory.

·       Participates in continuing education programs and hospital in-services.

·       Assures adequate supplies are available.

·       Any other tasks or services deemed relevant to your area.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·       Good communication and people skills

·       Excellent customer service skills

·       Good critical thinking skills and attention to detail

·       Analytical abilities necessary to perform calculations, calibrate instruments, and relate test results to normal healthy state and to presence of disease or other conditions, which may alter test results.

·       Ability to utilize Electronic Health Care Record for patient documentation.
