Job description

EnSafe is seeking a full-time GIS Director of Environmental Information Systems to join our professional team in Jacksonville, FL.

This position is located in Jacksonville, FL.ย  If needed, relocation assistance will be provided to support the requirement.

EnSafe is seeking a GIS Director within our Environmental Information System (EIS) Services to support a period of significant growth and increasing technical complexity. This role reflects a fundamental shift in our GIS environment, from a largely on-premises model with limited ArcGIS Online usage to a cloud-first Azure GIS platform built on ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal).

The GIS Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for GIS across the firm, ensuring the platform is scalable, secure, reliable, and wellgoverned, and deeply integrated with project delivery, field data collection, environmental databases, analytics, and modeling workflows. In addition to strengthening internal delivery, this role will help position GIS as a differentiated, clientfacing service offering and support external GIS project pursuits.

EnSafe, an employeeowned, global environmental consulting and engineering firm, is dedicated to delivering innovative, customized solutions for our clients. We work across Environmental Management and Planning, Civil Design Engineering, Environmental Restoration, Natural & Water Resources, Health & Safety, and Technology, with 24 offices operating across the United States.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Lead and develop a team of GIS professionals, providing mentorship, direction, and clear expectations to deliver high-quality outcomes across projects.
  • Own enterprise GIS strategy, platform architecture, and ESRI ecosystem (ArcGIS Pro, Portal, Field Maps, enterprise services), including cloud environment governance, reliability, and lifecycle management in partnership with IT.
  • Lead integration across GIS, EarthSoft EQuIS, modeling, analytics, and field technologies, designing standardized, scalable workflows that reduce manual handoffs and support end-to-end project delivery.
  • Lead reality capture strategy (UAS, LiDAR, photogrammetry), ensuring standardized outputs and integration into GIS and EIS workflows for site characterization, monitoring, and digital twin applications.
  • Establish data governance standards, including QA/QC, data integrity, security, and regulatory compliance across GIS services.
  • Establish and manage a scalable GIS delivery model, including capacity planning, utilization targets, prioritization, and internal capability development, reducing reliance on external managed services where appropriate.
  • Serve as a GIS subject matter expert supporting internal project teams and external pursuits, helping define scopes, solution strategies, project management, and client-facing engagement and positioning.

Minimum skills and requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Geography, Environmental Science, GIS, Computer Science, Information Technology) required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive GIS experience, ideally in a consulting, engineering, or technical services environment, including leadership responsibilities.
  • Strong ESRI experience, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, and familiarity with mobile/field workflows and ArcGIS Portal web viewers (e.g., Field Maps, Experience Builder, Dashboards, etc.).
  • Experience leading or supporting GIS services within a midtolarge environmental consulting or engineering firm, including exposure to enterprise platforms, standardized delivery models, and multioffice operations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex GIS and integrated data concepts to nontechnical audiences.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and varied stakeholder groups.
