Overview

The Design Project Manager position is an exciting opportunity to join PM Group’s quickly growing Raleigh-Durham area team located out of Apex, NC.  Together we are sharing knowledge, learning, growing, and continuing to be an integral part of supporting PM Group’s ongoing expansion in the US.  Our office is executing cutting-edge projects for Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, and Cell & Gene Therapy facilities – from feasibility through to qualification – for both local and international clients.  Together with our clients and partners, we will deliver projects that improve the everyday lives of people across the globe.

We are looking for a Project Manager who enjoys client interaction as well as the technical project management aspects of the position.  This individual is responsible for the driving the direction and performance of design projects and ensuring alignment with project objectives, requirements, metrics, and quality standards.  Expect project work to include all levels of design: feasibility studies, conceptual & schematic design, construction documentation, and construction administration. Project sizes will vary and will consist primarily of life science industry projects doing both existing building improvements and new construction.

Responsibilities
  • Perform work in compliance with PM Group’s Service Delivery platforms and Quality Management System
  • Safe execution of all phases of the project
  • Overall responsibility for the technical/commercial delivery and project execution
  • Implementing Quality Plans
  • Define scope of work and how the project will be delivered within the budget
  • Develop the project execution strategy in alignment with the Project Team and Customer
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the project execution strategy and modify as necessary to accommodate changing circumstances throughout the life of the project
  • Identify resource needs, timing and organize with resource owners
  • Coordinate the design between all disciplines
  • Obtain PO from the Client, agree to invoicing details, track payments, etc.
  • Prepare Project Monthly Internal Report (PMIR) for PM Group Management and ensure early notification of any significant project issues with potential commercial risks
  • Ensure Customer agreement and sub-consultant agreement (if applicable) are in place
  • Develop and agree project schedule(s): track/report progress and implement controls
  • Develop project budgets and then monitor and report on them regularly
  • Set up the project change management log: prepare change orders, identify and record changes alters, and review regularly with the Client
  • Ensure compliance with local statutory and regulatory authorities
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with PM Group and/or Customer procedures
  • Review contract risks, organize appropriate reviews and take appropriate steps to mitigate as necessary
  • Develop and maintain good Customer relationships
  • Set up appropriate communications and reporting structures (meeting, reports etc.) and follow up on any Customer complaints or issues
  • Lead the proposal effort: develop the execution strategy, commercials for proposal and lead the presentation to the Client
  • Motivate and direct the project team, including sub consultants
  • Prepare project reports for Customers (weekly/monthly or otherwise as required by the Customer or as appropriate to the project), covering Health Safety and Environmental, project progress (achieved and planned), cost and schedule status, ensuring visibility of key project risks, trends and areas of concern
  • Close out of projects including certification, handover, close-out review / report, project metrics, capturing “Lessons Learned” and filing/archiving

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or relevant work experience
  • 7 + Years of design experience in a design firm setting (preferably in the Pharmaceutical, Biopharmaceutical, Cell & Gene Therapy sectors)  
  • Capable of leading projects that are more than $100M
  • Experience managing projects of 10,000 + man hours
  • Good commercial awareness and business acumen
  • Good understanding of all disciplines
  • Professional Engineering (PE) licensure is strongly preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to produce quality work and achieve project deadlines within budget
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Excellent commercial skills with the ability to manage projects to budget man-hours and commercial return targets
  • Strong work ethic, self-driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook, and a clear focus on high quality
