Job Responsibilities:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Environmental Program Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the facility environmental management systems, meeting the requirements of ISO14001 standards, environmental control management to ensure company environmental compliance in all levels of governmental legislation. The Environmental Program Engineer will also plan and oversee projects that fall under the Environmental domain.

This is a contract position beginning on July 6, 2026 and ending on February 18, 2027

Salary Range: $84,000 - $93,000

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • University degree in Environmental Engineering
  • Min 3-5 years directly related experience in environmental field, experience with implementing environmental management systems.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Analyze complex data, math, research and analytical skills.
  • Able to apply knowledge and skills to the detection and solution of general technical problems; operate required measuring instruments; conduct testing/sampling; gather data, interpret analysis and legislation requirement and applications; write reports.
  • Understanding of how environmental regulations apply to the operation (particularly air & waste)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project and Outlook) and other relevant software systems.
  • Ability to communicate environmental risk to front line and management.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for environmental improvement.
  • Ability to identify data that is required and obtain from different departments.
  • Prioritize multiple deadlines and tasks.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain safety standards of equipment and work area and perform all duties in a safe manner in accordance with the safety policies of Karmax.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner in accordance with Section 28 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Industrial Establishments.
  • (c) engage in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct.
  • Follow Magna's Code of Conduct and Ethics and related compliance policies.
  • Co-ordinates industrial environmental aspects of the work site, i.e. waste disposal, recycling, air emission approvals, emergency preparedness and response plan, etc.
  • Maintains environmental management system and subsequent ISO 14001 standards requirements in obtaining and retaining company's registration/certification.
  • Reports on aspects of the environmental management system to the management team, i.e. corrective actions, continuous improvement programs, etc.
  • Manages environmental legislative compliance and acts as a liaison with government agencies and corporate personnel in the interest of the company's environmental affairs.
  • Is responsible for reporting information to government, industry, customer and corporate bodies as required.
  • Enter requisite environmental data in HSE Linx reporting plantform.
  • Plan and oversee projects that fall under the Environmental domain.
  • Sources and co-ordinates professional services as required for environmental programs.
  • Ensures and maintains accurate records to provide documentation and accountability in support of findings and conclusions.
  • Provides and co-ordinates environmental training of personnel as it pertains to their position in the company and the environmental management system.
  • Is a member of the Joint Health & Safety Committee
  • Is a member of the Karmax Sustainability Team and acts as support role to the sustainability specialist / champion.
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of the Division's environmental policies/procedures as required and ensures communication of same.
  • Lead problem solving and corrective actions for environmental related issues.
  • Participates in the investigation of environmental incidents and follows up to ensure completion of recommendations.
  • Co-operates in the preparation of material/evidence for us in hearings and insurance investigations.
  • Analyses environmental statistics and makes recommendations as required. Promotes and makes continuous improvement suggestions pertaining to the environment.
  • Develops, co-ordinates and presents environmental programs and procedures to all employees.
  • Assists with the Health and Safety Programs as required.
  • Follows all plant health, safety and environmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Reviews and maintains the safety data sheets (SDS) and database system. Performs environmental impact assessment for all new equipment and processes.
  • Keeps work area clean and neat.
  • Perform all duties in an environmentally responsible manner in accordance with the Karmax Environmental Policy Statement-3 P's. Prevent Pollution, Preserve Natural Resources & Protect our Environment Performs other related duties as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to work in various locations within and outside the Manufacturing Plant
  • Must be able to work outside of normal office hours to meet needs of the position with a Minimum Supervision
