Overview
The Senior Environmental Specialist is responsible for leading and managing environmental programs, policies, and compliance initiatives within the EHS organization. This role oversees the Environmental Management System (EMS), ensures compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to support a safe and environmentally responsible workplace.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in environmental compliance, permitting, and ISO 14001 standards, along with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and support regulatory readiness across operations.
Duties
  • Lead and maintain the Environmental Management System (EMS) in compliance with ISO 14001 standards
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and permit requirements
  • Manage air permitting activities and ongoing air compliance programs
  • Oversee stormwater and wastewater compliance programs, including inspections, monitoring, and reporting
  • Administer chemical management programs and environmental risk mitigation activities
  • Lead spill prevention, preparedness, and response initiatives
  • Develop, implement, and update environmental policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Monitor regulatory changes and communicate impacts to internal stakeholders
  • Support audits, inspections, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with EHS and operational teams to promote environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance
  • Provide guidance and training to employees regarding environmental requirements and procedures

Requirements:
  • 3+ years of environmental compliance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Hands-on experience with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems
  • Experience managing TDEC air, stormwater, and wastewater permits
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations
  • TOSHA experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field

Preferred
  • Experience with hazardous waste and industrial waste management
  • Professional certifications such as:
    • CPESC
    • RCRA
    • DOT Hazmat
    • ISO 14001 Lead Auditor
    • CHMM
    • SPCC
