The Legal Assistant (LA) will provide administrative support to various attorney groups as assigned. The LA will interact with external clients as well as internal support staff. This position offers a great entry point for individuals seeking to begin a career in the legal field.
The LA will work a regular schedule as determined by the Office Administrator/HR and/or the assigned attorneys. The typical schedule will consist of 7.5 hours per day equating to 37.5 hours per week. Additional overtime may be required on occasion.
This position is available in Atlanta, Georgia.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare legal documents, pleadings, contracts and correspondence from draft or dictated text.
  • Manage attorneys' calendars and assist in meeting deadlines.
  • Docket court filing deadlines and scheduling orders.
  • Maintain attorneys' time entry for billing purposes.
  • Coordinate attorneys' and/or clients' travel arrangements including scheduling flights, ground transportation, overnight accommodations, preparing directions, and confirming travel schedules.
  • Perform clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, transcribing dictation, composing and typing routine correspondence, scanning and converting various documents, and reading and routing incoming mail.
  • Answer a multi-line telephone system, determine the purpose of calls, and transfer callers to appropriate personnel.
  • Provide assistance to fellow legal support staff as needed.
  • Assist in the review and issuance of client invoices.
  • File correspondence and legal documents in office electronic and paper filing system.
  • Maintain and organize new and existing client files.
  • Ensure proper indexing and filing of original legal documents.
  • Manage and organize attorneys' contacts in database. Support business development activities as needed.

  • Adhere to all firm policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Maintain confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Office Administrator and/or the assigned attorneys.

Requirements
  • Zero to two years of experience as a legal secretary or as an administrative assistant in a law firm or legal department and an Associate's degree, or the equivalent combination of experience and education. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience working in a business litigation practice is preferred.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Operate office equipment such as copy/scanning machine, postage meter, and fax machine.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including typing skills of 75 WPM.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent time management skills. Must effectively prioritize work/projects and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities and accommodate rush requests.
  • Motivated, self-directed individual with ability to anticipate and resolve issues and work with little to no supervision.
  • Must be a team player, willing to support other firm members and non-direct report attorneys during staff shortages.
