Job description

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, ranked No. 1 among U.S.undergraduate engineering colleges by U.S. News & World Report for 27consecutive years, invites applications for an Electrical and ComputerEngineering Lab Technician.

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Lab Technician provides technicaland laboratory support for instructional, research, and project-basedactivities within the department. The position is responsible for setting up,maintaining, calibrating, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing laboratoryequipment, instrumentation, and associated computer systems. The technicianprepares laboratory spaces for instruction and research, manages inventory andsupplies, maintains laboratory documentation, and ensures that facilities andequipment are available and operating effectively to support departmentalactivities.

As a technical resource for faculty, staff, and students, the LabTechnician assists with laboratory instruction, capstone projects, independentstudies, and research initiatives. The position provides guidance and trainingin the safe and effective use of laboratory equipment, tools, and technologies;supports the development and refinement of laboratory experiments; andcollaborates with faculty to enhance the student learning experience throughhands-on technical support and instructional materials.

The Lab Technician also contributes technical expertise to research andproject activities by assisting with experimental design, implementation,testing, and troubleshooting. The position is responsible for maintaining asafe laboratory environment through the implementation and enforcement oflaboratory safety procedures and by ensuring that laboratories, preparationareas, and stockrooms remain organized, clean, and fully operational.

Qualified candidates will possess a bachelor's degree and at least fiveto seven years of relevant professional experience, or an equivalentcombination of education and experience. Four years of additional experiencemay be substituted for a degree. Candidates must have demonstrated experiencein PCB circuit design and troubleshooting, soldering and rework of boththrough-hole and surface-mount (SMD) components, and the use of electronic testand measurement equipment in a laboratory or engineering environment.

Additional experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:microcontroller programming and embedded systems development; 3D printing,laser cutting, and laser engraving technologies; and Linux systemadministration and support, particularly in Debian or Ubuntu environments.Teaching, training, or laboratory support experience in higher education, aswell as relevant certifications, technical specializations, or advanceddegrees, are also preferred. Successful candidates will possess excellentinterpersonal, customer service, organizational, and problem-solving skills,along with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
