The Aparecio Foundation is a nonprofit organization that was designed as an economic development strategy to lift women out of poverty and as a community development approach to build the leadership capacity of low-income women. The Aparecio Foundation provides academic support and scholarship programs for hih-potential, low-income women in public high schools hrough an eight-year multiple-mentor program.

The culture of Aparecio Foundation is characterized by an informal and laid back environment, where employees work independently and in teams to develop and carry out effective organizational structure and work processes. Employees are driven through self-motivation and passion for the not-for-profit sector. Through the development of quality services to the enhancement of the organization's goals and objectives employees are able to use their strengths and skills the best ways they can! Therefore Aparecio Foundation employees are given freedom to be creative and energetic in performing their tasks and duties as professionals in their respective field of expertise.

Job Description

The Aparecio Foundation is a growing organization with a great need for a professional
Journalist. The Journalist position will be responsible for the strategic development of all
written documents for release to the public including "The Catalyst Magazine," our quarterly
newspaper, as well as within the organization. The Journalist is expected to monitor and cover
multiple topics of interest associated with the organization including politics, culture, local and
national events, lifestyle and human interest stories. Overall, the Journalist is to focus on the
enhancement of organizational reputation to external audiences through engaging topics and
superior standards of written communication.

Description of Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Report and write stories for publication or broadcast describing background and detail

of events adhering to professional writing standards.

  • Review and evaluate copy for proper use of grammar, punctuation, etc.
  • Build contacts to maintain a constant continuum of relevant facts.
  • Interview individuals to gain additional insight and record information.
  • Investigate media releases and/or stories related to the organization's interests.
  • Attend conferences and ask questions when needed.
  • Work with other departments to determine relevant material.
  • Determine the appropriate emphasis, length, and format and organize material to

complete assignments by deadline.

  • Upload copy to organizations' website.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (Journalism or English) required; Masters preferred
  • Some experience in field of Journalism, providing 3 written work samples
  • Value and practice creative writing
