Job description

As the Environmental Health & Safety Specialist, you are responsible for leading all manufacturing plant personnel in all aspects of environmental, safety, health, security, and training. The responsibilities include actively participating in and supporting the environmental safety and health initiatives established by ICL, leading continual improvement in the facilities Responsible Care EHS management systems, participating in internal EHSS compliance audits, meeting business commitments, managing EHS elements of capital project design and providing effective internal and external communication.

  • Ensure ESH compliance through working closely with corporate ESH, Production, and Quality personnel
  • Serve as a liaison with local, state, and federal representatives from regulatory agencies including IOSHA, EPA, IDEM, DOT and local emergency responders 
  • Oversee submission of permit applications (air and/or water and/or waste) and reports as required by environmental regulations
  • Initiate and manage capital projects supporting the environmental safety and health initiatives established by ICL
  • Lead continual improvement of the Responsible Care 14001 EHS Management System 
  • Lead site implementation of global EHS tools including Enablon and GOARC 
  • Evaluate EHS impacts for change management throughout operations 
  • Provide facility EHS focus through the development and completion of annual EHSS workplan plans and support JHAs, and EHS inspections/audits 
  • Lead and participate in Process Hazard Analyses, including HAZOP, What-if, etc. 
  • Develop, conduct, and evaluate required EHS training for all employees 
  • Ensure accurate EHS record keeping (e.g., medical records, OSHA Log, WC) 
  • Drive culture of early detection of hazardous and learning from events to build defenses and minimize incidents 
  • Actively participate on the ICL North America regional EHS team and auditing program
  • Interact with outside vendors that are directly involved with compliance efforts including Environmental, Insurance and other outside services
  • Expectation to be on call for plant emergencies or troubleshooting 


What skills and experience do I need to be successful in this role? 

  • BS or BA degree in Environmental Health & Safety or a related degree
  • A minimum of 2 years of EHS experience preferred
  • Knowledge in Process Safety Management preferred
  • Experience in managing people/processes in health and safety field
  • Strong organization/leadership skills
  • Previous management experience in an industrial and chemical manufacturing environment preferred
  • Proficient with MS Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization

Salary Range: $69,000-$85,000


Annual Bonus Target: 5%, subject to plan provisions.
