Adaptation to new tools and skills will be essential for future employment in this field.

What jobs in the US pay 300,000 a year?

In the field of environmental informatics, high-paying roles such as senior data scientists, environmental consultants, or environmental managers can reach or exceed $300,000 annually, especially with extensive experience, advanced degrees, and specialized skills in data analysis, GIS tools, and environmental modeling. These positions often require leadership responsibilities and expertise in integrating environmental data with technology solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Environmental Informatics position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Environmental Informatics, you need a solid background in environmental science, data analysis, and geospatial technologies, often supported by a relevant degree such as environmental science, computer science, or geography. Expertise in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), programming languages (such as Python or R), and data management systems is commonly required, along with industry certifications like GISP being a plus. Job description

Overview

As the Senior Manager, Informatics, you will lead the charge to improve the reliability, security, and scalability of Bio-Rad's Quality System Informatics as our Senior Manager, Informatics. You'll set the roadmap for foundational capabilities - connectivity, identity (SSO), accessibility, cybersecurity, and core shared services - and take ownership of the standards and operational readiness that make upgrades and migrations smoother for existing customers. Partnering closely with engineering, architecture, security, quality, services, and support teams, you'll align priorities, communicate key customer needs, remove blockers, and drive high-quality releases that strengthen customer trust and make Informatics products easier to deploy and operate at scale.

Location: This position must be based in Irvine, CA and is hybrid in office Tuesday-Thursday which requires the employee to be located within commuting distance of the office.

How You'll Make An Impact:

  • Develop a deep understanding of customer needs through discovery, VOC, and usage data-and distill those insights into a clear, strategic roadmap for platform solutions.
  • Own and communicate product vision, priorities, and tradeoffs for core platform capabilities (connectivity, cybersecurity, SSO/identity, accessibility, shared services, and scalability), balancing customer value, technical feasibility, and risk.
  • Partner with engineering, commercial teams and support to deliver roadmap outcomes-driving alignment, managing dependencies, and unblocking teams to ship on time with high quality.
  • Set platform standards and release readiness criteria for security, quality, documentation, and supportability-reducing operational burden and strengthening customer trust.
  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders at all levels-translating customer problems and platform complexity into crisp decisions, sequencing, and status that keeps delivery and customer readiness on track.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent; an advanced degree (e.g., MBA) is preferred.
  • 8+ years of product management experience in diagnostics, biotech, med-tech, or related systems roles (product, marketing, engineering, or program), with a proven record of system lifecycle management from product vision through migration, end-of-life/obsolescence planning, and customer adoption in a matrix environment.
  • Strong product discovery skills: you deeply understand customer needs (VOC, usage data, and stakeholder input) and translate them into a strategic roadmap of solutions, requirements, and measurable outcomes.
  • Technical fluency across platform foundations such as integrations/connectivity, identity/SSO, cybersecurity, accessibility, and reliability/performance-able to partner effectively with engineering and security teams and make sound tradeoffs.
  • Fluent in developing and presenting business cases to executive audience.
  • Business-savvy and data-driven communicator: you use dashboards, adoption metrics, and market insights to shape recommendations, influence stakeholders, and guide investment decisions.

Total Rewards Package: At Bio-Rad, we're empowered by our purpose and recognize that our employees are as well.  That's why we offer a competitive and comprehensive Total Rewards Program that provides value, quality, and inclusivity while satisfying the diverse needs of our evolving workforce. Compensation: The estimated base salary range for this position is $157,400 - $216,400 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors. This position is also eligible for a variable annual bonus, which is dependent upon achievement of your individual objectives and Company performance.
