Environmental Health Remote information

What is an environmental health remote?

An Environmental Health Remote job involves monitoring, assessing, and advising on environmental factors that can impact human health, all while working remotely. Professionals in this field may analyze data on air and water quality, help develop policies, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. They often collaborate with public health agencies, businesses, and communities to prevent health hazards related to the environment. Remote roles leverage technology to conduct research, communicate findings, and manage projects from a distance. This flexibility allows for a broader reach and the ability to support multiple locations without being physically present.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an environmental health remote professional?

To thrive as an Environmental Health Remote professional, you typically need a background in environmental science, public health, or a related field, often supported by a relevant degree and sometimes certification (such as REHS/RS). Familiarity with GIS software, data analysis tools, and remote monitoring systems is commonly required to assess environmental risks and compliance. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective written communication make a candidate stand out in remote settings. These skills are crucial for accurately assessing environmental health risks, ensuring regulatory compliance, and effectively collaborating with stakeholders from a distance.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote environmental health roles, and how can they be managed?

Assurant is seeking a strategic and hands-on Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead the development and advancement of our safety culture across our U.S. Device Care Centers (DCCs). This is a unique opportunity to build, influence, and scale a high-impact safety program supporting approximately 3,000 employees across large, technology-driven operations in Texas and Tennessee.
This role is ideal for a collaborative safety leader who can balance technical expertise with relationship building, helping operations teams identify risks, improve processes, and embed safety into everyday decision-making.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive EHS strategy, policies, and programs across multiple Device Care Center locations.

  • Partner with operations, HR, security, and business leaders to strengthen safety awareness and drive sustainable cultural change.

  • Utilize findings from third-party assessments, audits, inspections, and risk evaluations to prioritize improvement initiatives.

  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.

  • Design and deliver engaging safety training, onboarding, hazard communication, and leadership development programs.

  • Oversee regulatory compliance with OSHA and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.

  • Drive ergonomics initiatives and injury prevention efforts in highly repetitive operational environments.

  • Support emergency preparedness planning, drills, and response activities.

  • Monitor safety metrics, maintain documentation, and communicate performance trends to leadership.

  • Manage and develop an EHS Technician while helping shape the future growth of the EHS function.

What Makes This Opportunity Unique

  • Build and mature an enterprise-wide safety program from the ground up.

  • Influence operations across three large-scale facilities featuring automation, robotics, material handling equipment, and reverse logistics processes.

  • Work directly with senior leaders who are invested in improving safety culture and program maturity.

  • Potential long-term opportunity to expand influence across Assurant's global supply chain operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of EHS experience within reverse logistics, distribution, automation, warehouse, or light manufacturing environments.

  • 5+ years of EHS leadership or management experience.

  • Experience building, implementing, or significantly enhancing safety programs and processes.

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, risk assessments, incident investigations, and regulatory compliance.

  • Experience conducting ergonomics assessments and reducing repetitive motion injuries.

  • Excellent communication, influencing, stakeholder management, and change leadership skills.

  • Ability to prioritize initiatives, gain buy-in, and drive results in evolving environments.

  • Experience with ISO 9001 certifications and operating within RIOS/R2 certified environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or equivalent certification.

  • OSHA 30 General Industry and/or OSHA 511 certification.

  • Ergonomics certification or advanced ergonomics experience.

  • Program and project management experience across multiple sites.

Location & Travel

  • Preferred location is either our Irving or Lewisville, TX facilities.

  • Regular presence at multiple facilities, typically split between Texas locations, with quarterly travel to Mount Juliet, TN.
