Interns may assist with inspections, data analysis, research, and community outreach related to environmental hazards, workplace safety, and public health policies. These internships are often found in government agencies, non-profits, or private organizations. They offer valuable exposure to real-world environmental health challenges and help students or recent graduates build practical skills for future careers in the field.

What types of projects or tasks will I work on during an environmental health internship?

As an Environmental Health Intern, you may assist with activities such as conducting field inspections, collecting and analyzing environmental samples, supporting research studies, and helping to educate the public about health and safety practices. Interns often work closely with experienced environmental health professionals to monitor air and water quality, investigate complaints, and review compliance with local or federal regulations. You may also participate in data entry, reporting, and attending team meetings or community outreach events. This variety of hands-on tasks is designed to give you valuable experience and insight into real-world challenges faced in the environmental health field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in an environmental health internship?

To thrive as an Environmental Health Intern, you should have a foundational understanding of environmental science, public health principles, and data analysis, typically supported by progress toward a relevant degree.
