Job description

Under the supervision of the Workforce Coordinator & Crew Leader, the Environmental Stewardship Associate will actively participate in numerous activities aimed at addressing climate change, promoting sustainable practices, and preserving our natural heritage. This hands-on experience will not only contribute to habitat restoration beautification but will also equip you with valuable soft skills, resume-building opportunities, and life lessons that will shape your future.
* This is a temporary position expected to start on July 6th 2026 and expected to end August 13th 2026 *
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Functions
  • Engage in various activities aimed at combating climate change, including but not limited to mulching, pruning, planting, beach cleanups, and other conservation efforts.
  • Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of national, state, and/or local parks, contributing to their preservation and enhancement for future generations.
  • Participate in habitat restoration projects, working to revitalize ecosystems and promote biodiversity.
  • Learn and implement the importance of recycling and using clean energy, promoting sustainable practices both within the team and in the broader community.
  • Attend special tours and education sessions to deepen your understanding of environmental issues and conservation strategies.
  • Attend and actively participate in multiple workshops focused on leadership development, waste reduction, sustainable living practices, workplace etiquette and professionalism, interview preparation, and career exploration and development.
  • Receive mentorship and guidance to develop essential skills for future academic and career opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow Environmental Stewardship Associate members, volunteers, and the Crew Leader to achieve project goals and objectives.

Safety
  • Maintain personal safety, use personal protection equipment (PPE) and follow Company policies.
  • Report all and any safety issues, accidents or injuries to your manager as a matter of priority.
  • Promotes the health and safety of participants and follows safety and emergency procedures.

  • Ability to interact positively with team members.
  • Ability to facilitate positive change.
  • Partner with supervisor when necessary to address department issues or concerns.
  • Ability to partner/help other Program departments as needed.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education: Either enrolled in high school or in college.
Experience: No prior experience necessary.
Requirement:
  • Above the age of 16, with a passion for environmental conservation and sustainability.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with peers and supervisor.
  • Willingness to learn and engage in physically demanding tasks related to habitat restoration and environment upkeep.
  • Openness to new experiences and a commitment to personal and professional growth.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Independent thinker, possess excellent customer service skills, professional attitude, a high level of personal integrity, maturity, and business judgment required.
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize task, meet deadlines, able to do presentations and to maintain confident information. Strong analytical skills and demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be a well-organized professional who thrives in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to remain tactful under pressure and present a professional demeanor and communication style with co-workers in a multicultural setting.
  • Ability to be culturally aware when working with others.

Software: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Chrome.
Proficiency in Google Suite: Sheets, Slides, Docs, and Drive.
Decision Making: Set priorities and standards of performance; Develop plans by which work can be accomplished.
Tools and Equipment:Training and familiarization provided to youth corps members on how to properly use the tools and equipment. This could include safety training, demonstrations, or hands-on practice sessions supervised by experienced staff member
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to sit approximately 20% of the time, walk 40% of the time and stand 40% of the time. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to type or handle, feel, and operate objects. The employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to speak and listen. Specific vision abilities of this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
