Job description

The group you'll be a part of
This role in the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) team is responsible for implementing the environmental programs for all media and specialty areas (air, water, waste, sustainability) at Lam Research's Tualatin, Oregon location.
The impact you'll make
The Environmental Engineer is responsible for the compliance and continual improvement of environmental programs for Tualatin Lam site, applying and implementing requirements from a systematic perspective and integrating them into Lam's business culture. This includes management of Lam's environmental regulatory compliance, environmental permits, programs, procedures, policies, and support of ISO14001 registration. This position performs a variety of work to ensure compliance through explanation of permit terms and regulatory obligations, recommendation of appropriate action to assure conformance to current and new regulatory requirements, support of operational activities to minimize pollution, oversee or manage projects, maintain, and improve the EHS management system. Collaborates with all departments and functions as necessary to ensure effective implementation of compliance and Tualatin sustainability activities.
What you'll do
  • Implement the environmental program including air emissions control, wastewater treatment, stormwater management, waste management, and sustainability. Responsible for all environmental programs, procedures, and permits.
  • Obtain and manage all environmental related permits, including the development of operations compliance plans, chemical use and storage threshold monitoring, and legal registries.
  • Submit regulatory permit monitoring reports, annual operating reports, and calculations as required to the regulatory agencies. Prepare submittals for applicable permit renewal applications.
  • Manage agency inspections and community outreach. Ensure all community stakeholders, landlords, and agencies are notified as appropriate for environmental permits, spills and releases, emergency response drills, etc.
  • Manage the waste program, including waste identification, waste characterization, handling, disposal and minimization.
  • Maintain knowledge of local environmental regulations and monitor upcoming environmental legislation changes. Evaluate, interpret, and apply environmental laws, regulations and permits as it relates to the operation of the facility.
  • Background in chemistry or environmental engineering with demonstrated ability to perform abatement efficiency, byproduct, release calculations, etc. Must have the ability to perform these calculations independently.
  • Assists Lab Operations and other business units with management of change activities, including equipment and tool installation, process safety review and R&D chemical use approval, and pro-active prevention and management initiatives.
  • Investigates any exceedances in wastewater and air emissions and assists with the development of containment and corrective action plans.
  • Provides guidance to personnel to ensure understanding of environmental programs.
  • Manages stack testing, monitoring, and other testing requirements. Must be able to perform sampling, as needed. Must have the ability to interpret data and develop action plans accordingly.
  • Performs environmental inspections and audits.
  • Supports ISO14001 certification and the internal assessment program.

Who we're looking for
  • 7-12 years of EHS experience in environmental engineering, environmental science, or environmental management. Semiconductor experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, or other related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Strong understanding of wastewater treatment systems and air scrubber functions and operations.
  • Prior experience with managing air emissions permits, wastewater treatment permits, stormwater management, and waste management.
  • Knowledge of Federal and Oregon environmental regulations and requirements.
  • Hazard risk assessment experience.
  • Must be comfortable working in a laboratory, clean room, and construction environments.
  • Professional environmental certifications desirable.
