The purpose of this position is to ensure compliance is maintained with environmental regulations and requirements at the City's Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility and Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Facility. This job works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. Examples of Duties The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class.
Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals. Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
Reviews analytical data and prepare routine reports in various prescribed formats for both facilities on a monthly basis. Prepares more extensive reports in accordance with permit conditions/requirements for regulatory agencies on an annual basis. Reviews reports prepared by others (contracted firms and internal staff) prior to submittal to regulatory agencies.
Coordinates sampling and analysis with contracted laboratories as required. Reviews permits, rules, and procedures regarding environmental compliance. Advises corrective actions/recommendations to potential or noted compliance issues as warranted.
Requests and evaluates proposals for professional services related to environmental compliance activities. Communicates and coordinates with regulatory agencies regarding inspections, meetings, etc. Performs related work as assigned.
Typical Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Requires an associate's degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education. Four years of environmental regulatory programs or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
Supplemental Information PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Group B Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
