Environment Intern information

What does an environment intern do?

An Environment Intern assists organizations with projects related to environmental protection and sustainability. Their tasks may include collecting and analyzing environmental data, supporting research, helping organize educational events, and assisting with regulatory compliance. Interns gain practical experience by working on real-world projects, learning about environmental policies, and supporting the team with administrative duties. This role is ideal for students or recent graduates looking to start a career in environmental science or related fields.

What types of projects can environment interns expect to work on during their internship?

As an Environment Intern, you can expect to work on a variety of projects that support sustainability initiatives, data collection, and environmental assessments. Typical responsibilities may include conducting fieldwork to collect environmental samples, assisting with research on local ecosystems, analyzing data related to air or water quality, and helping to prepare reports or presentations for stakeholders. Interns often collaborate with environmental scientists, engineers, and project managers, gaining exposure to both individual tasks and team-based projects. This hands-on experience is valuable for understanding real-world environmental challenges and developing practical skills for future roles in the field.

KATU/KUNP Fall News Intern

Step inside the newsroom where stories break, voices matter, and information moves at the speed of now.

We're looking for a passionate, curious, and driven News Intern to join our team for Fall 2026. As part of a forward-thinking media organization, you won't just observe-you'll actively contribute to the storytelling that informs and connects our community across platforms.

From breaking news to digital-first storytelling, this is your opportunity to experience what modern journalism really looks like.

What You'll Do

This is a fast-paced, real newsroom-no two days are the same.

  • Create & Contribute: Assist in researching, writing, and producing news stories for broadcast and digital platforms
  • Be Where the Action Is: Work alongside reporters, anchors, producers, and photographers-both in the newsroom and out in the field
  • Pitch Ideas: Bring fresh story ideas to the table and help shape coverage that matters to our audience
  • Get Hands-On: Learn how to shoot video, frame compelling visuals, and understand what makes a story stand out
  • Behind the Scenes: Gain exposure to control room operations and how live broadcasts come together in real time

What You'll Gain

This internship is designed to build real skills-not just fill a line on your resume.

  • Hands-on experience in modern, multi-platform journalism
  • A deeper understanding of how today's newsrooms operate-from broadcast to digital and social
  • Opportunities to build a professional portfolio with published or produced work
  • Mentorship from experienced journalists who know the industry inside and out
  • Valuable connections to jumpstart your career in media

To be considered, candidates must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, or a recent graduate
  • Be at least a sophomore at an accredited college/university
  • Be eligible to work in the United States
  • Be available to work on-site at KATU/KUNP in Portland, OR approximately 15 hours per week for 10 weeks
  • Be able to start between August 24th - September 14th
  • Have reliable transportation (housing/relocation is not provided)
  • Be passionate about local news, storytelling, and community impact
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

All candidates must apply through our careers portal and complete pre-employment requirements.

Why Join Us

Because journalism in 2026 is more dynamic than ever-and this is your chance to be part of it.

Join a team that values accuracy, creativity, and impact. Help tell stories that matter, develop skills that translate across platforms, and take your first step into a career in news.
