As the primary first-line risk owner for marketing-related operational and regulatory compliance risks, including UDAAP, this role plays a critical part in protecting the Bank, its customers, and the Brand.
The role reports to the Marketing Director and partners closely with the Business Risk Office and other first-line risk management teams. The Specialist works cross-functionally with Marketing, Product, Legal, Corporate Compliance, and Business Risk Office partners to ensure risks are identified early, controls are effective, and campaigns move forward efficiently and compliantly.

Key Accountabilities
First Line Business Risk Management: Serve as the designated first-line risk owner for the Marketing function, consistent with the Bank's Business Risk Officer framework.
  • Identify, assess, document, and monitor marketing-related risks, including operational, regulatory, compliance, reputational, and consumer risks.
  • Proactively identify control gaps, emerging risks, and process weaknesses, escalating material issues in accordance with established risk-escalation protocols.
  • Support the design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of first-line controls to mitigate marketing risks, including centralized marketing review workflows, documentation standards, and other first-line governance processes.
  • Participate in and support risk and control assessments, issue management, management action plans, and remediation activities related to Marketing.
  • Coordinate and support regulatory examinations, audits, and internal reviews impacting Marketing by organizing first-line responses, documentation, and remediation efforts.
  • Conduct risk-based monitoring and analysis to identify trends, repeat issues, and systemic control improvement opportunities, including analysis of client complaint trends.
  • Partner with Enterprise Risk Management and Corporate Compliance to identify and address risk management and regulatory compliance training needs across Marketing.

Marketing Review & Advisory: Perform initial first-line compliance review and approval of marketing materials across all channels, including advertising, digital content, email campaigns, social media, branch signage, sponsorships, promotions, and other customer-facing communications.
  • Review marketing strategies, claims, disclosures, and disclaimers to ensure accuracy, clarity, completeness, fairness, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal standards, including UDAAP, ECOA, Truth in Savings, Truth in Lending, FDIC usage, and related consumer-protection requirements, leveraging established compliance review checklists.
  • Provide real-time guidance and advisory support to Marketing partners throughout the campaign lifecycle to proactively minimize rework and reduce risk.
  • Identify higher-risk, novel, or complex issues and escalate to Corporate Compliance and/or Legal in accordance with defined escalation criteria.
  • Coordinate risk management activities related to the development, fulfillment, and ongoing monitoring of promotional activities.
  • Support the development, maintenance, and adoption of approved marketing templates, disclosures, and standard language to drive consistency and risk mitigation across channels.

Key Competencies for Position
  • Risk Awareness & Judgment: Identifies marketing-related operational and compliance risks and applies sound judgment within established frameworks and standards.
  • Marketing Fluency: Understands marketing channels, campaign workflows, and time-to-market pressures.
  • Communication: Clearly and constructively explains compliance requirements to non-compliance partners.
  • Collaboration: Builds trust and strong working relationships with Marketing, Legal, Compliance, and Risk stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensures accuracy of claims, disclosures, and supporting documentation.
  • Process Discipline: Adheres to review standards and maintains clear, defensible documentation and audit trails.
  • Timeliness: Works efficiently and effectively to meet campaign timelines and established service-level expectations.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, Communications, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in banking or financial services marketing, compliance, risk, or legal review.
  • Working knowledge of financial services advertising requirements and consumer-protection principles.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing channels (web, email, social, paid media).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
