Job description

Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance, one of the region's largest orthopedic private practices, is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Clinical Informatics Associate to join our growing team. This entry-level position bridges clinical operations and information technology, supporting the effective use of our electronic health record (EHR) and related clinical systems across our clinics, ambulatory surgery center, physical therapy, and imaging departments. The Clinical Informatics Associate helps ensure that physicians, advanced practice providers, and clinical staff can deliver excellent patient care through reliable, efficient, and well-designed technology workflows.
This is an ideal opportunity for an early-career professional interested in building a career at the intersection of healthcare and technology. This full-time, 40 hours per week position is Mondays-Fridays from 8am-5pm.
Essential Functions
  • Provide first-line support to physicians, clinicians, and staff for the EHR, practice management system, patient portal, and related clinical applications; triage, document, and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Assist with building and maintaining EHR content such as order sets, templates, note macros, referral workflows, and clinical decision support tools specific to orthopedic care.
  • Support new-hire onboarding by delivering EHR training sessions and creating quick-reference guides, tip sheets, and workflow documentation.
  • Participate in system upgrades, new module rollouts, and integration projects (e.g., PACS/imaging, e-prescribing, patient intake, telehealth), including testing and go-live support.
  • Assist with data quality efforts, including running routine reports, auditing documentation completeness, and supporting quality reporting programs (e.g., MIPS/quality measures, registry submissions).
  • Observe clinical workflows in clinics and departments to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements in partnership with informatics and operations leadership.
  • Track and follow up on support tickets, maintaining clear communication with end users through resolution.
  • Support compliance with HIPAA, security policies, and documentation standards in all informatics activities.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or associate degree in health informatics, health information management, healthcare administration, nursing, biology, computer science, or a related field; clinical credentials (e.g., MA, LPN, RT, athletic trainer) also valued.
  • Experience in a clinical, healthcare IT, or medical office setting.
  • Experience with an ambulatory EHR system (e.g., ModMed/EMA, athenahealth, Epic, eClinicalWorks, NextGen).
  • Exposure to orthopedics, sports medicine, physical therapy, or ambulatory surgery environments.
  • Coursework or certification in health informatics (e.g., RHIA, RHIT, CAHIMS) is a plus.

Working Conditions
  • Primarily office and clinic-based work with regular interaction with clinical staff; occasional early morning or evening hours during go-lives and upgrades.
  • May require sitting for extended periods and moving between clinic locations.

What We Offer
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with match, PTO).
  • Mentorship and a defined growth path into analyst, trainer, or informatics specialist roles.
  • The opportunity to make a visible impact in a physician-owned practice known for excellence in musculoskeletal care.
