ROLE OVERVIEW

The Cable Installer position is an entry-level, statewide position responsible for assisting with the installation of structured cabling systems for voice, data, and related communications infrastructure.

This position works under direct supervision and receives on-the-job training in cabling procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and equipment. No prior experience is required; training will be provided to help employees develop the skills necessary to succeed.

Work may include travel throughout the state to various job sites. Overnight stays may be required depending on project needs.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with cable pulling for voice and data systems.
  • Assist with termination of copper cabling (data and voice).
  • Perform basic cable testing under supervision.
  • Assist with rack installation and light construction (e.g., wall penetrations).
  • Maintain clean and organized job sites.
  • Log installation work and complete service documentation accurately.
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Troubleshoot routine issues and escalate complex issues to supervisors.
  • Function as a dependable team member and provide professional customer service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Interest in telecommunications, cabling, or information technology preferred.
  • On-the-job training will be provided.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (cables, racks, communication equipment).
  • Ability to stoop, bend, crawl in confined spaces, and climb ladders and stairs.
  • Ability to work in various environments including construction sites.

Technical Skills

  • Basic mechanical aptitude preferred.
  • Willingness to learn cabling standards, tools, and testing procedures.
  • BICSI certification is a plus but not required.

Other Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to pass a background check to obtain security clearance for certain job sites, if required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel statewide as needed.
