Department Summary
The student communications assistant/summer semester photography student position at the Voinovich School of Leadership & Public Service (GVS) provides a photography student an opportunity to work on documenting events and ongoing project work of our faculty & staff. The student will work with the Voinovich School's Graphic Designer and External Communications and Events team. This position will include photographing events both on Ohio University's campus as well as off campus throughout the Appalachian Ohio region (mileage will be covered).
The photography student's duties will vary from week to week depending on assignments. Typical expectations would be to photograph multiple events per week (including portraits, headshots, events and helping to develop a back catalog of b-roll type imagery for the school). All assignments would be set up by the School's Graphic Designer ahead of time but will also be able to work with other members of the School's Faculty & Staff. Preference will be given to those with video experience, both shooting and editing videos. When there are limited events to be covered the student may be asked to work on office tasks.
Job Profile
Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Performs a variety of tasks to support University Communications & Marketing. Duties may include writing and editing communications and news stories, managing social media content, updating websites and multimedia content, designing promotional materials, supporting marketing campaigns, and assisting with event communications.
Level Summary
Performs basic tasks and assists with administrative or operational duties under supervision. Roles are entry-level and aimed at providing exposure to workplace environments.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Limited supervisory responsibilities. May supervise other student workers.
Fiscal Responsibilities:
No budgetary responsibility.
Problem Solving:
Addresses routine, well-defined problems under supervision.
Independence of Action:
Works under close supervision.
Communication and Collaboration:
Communicates primarily with supervisor and peers. Collaborates with team members to accomplish tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
Enrolled for classes at Ohio University, Hocking College, another post-secondary education institution, or a secondary school during the current semester, immediate previous semester, or immediate upcoming semester. Able to follow instructions and complete tasks within deadlines. Basic knowledge of office software and communication tools. Departments may have specific minimum requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, with an emphasis on Premiere.
Working Condition/Physical Demands:
This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.
