Job description

Telephony Engineer Location: Columbia, SC Onsite Interview Process: 2 rounds, virtual Duration: 12 Months Employment Type: Contract Experience Required: 03+ Years Candidate location: Candidate MUST be a SC resident or willing to relocate to SC prior to starting the role at their own expense. Additional details: Candidates must be US Citizens or Legal Residents. Project Scope: The Telephony Engineer will provide daily telephony engineering, administration, technical support, and operational services for enterprise telephony and unified communications systems.

The consultant will be responsible for advanced troubleshooting, telephony infrastructure support, call routing, VoIP, E911 services, voice gateways, PSTN connectivity, and enterprise telephony improvements. Key Responsibilities: Provide operational and advanced administration for enterprise telephony systems. Handle move, add, change, and disconnect (MACD) requests for voice, voicemail, conference services, safety devices, IVR, vectoring, call center services, and unified communications.

Maintain accurate 911/E911 location information. Provide advanced technical support for telephony projects and serve as a technical lead for assigned tasks. Research, design, maintain, and implement improvements to enterprise telephony networks.

Configure and install telephony equipment, including media gateways, telephones, and safety devices. Develop and maintain technical standards, processes, configurations, and documentation. Perform quality assurance testing.

Work with telecommunications vendors to provision circuits and resolve outages. Analyze and optimize vector routing, ARS routing tables, dial plans, and route patterns. Troubleshoot voice quality, call routing, carrier connectivity, and E911 issues.

Provide engineering-level support for enterprise VoIP and unified communications platforms. Respond to customer incident tickets and provide timely resolution. Coordinate with multiple technical teams and vendors during service outages.

Perform advanced maintenance and repair of telephony and unified communications systems. Identify automation opportunities to improve operational efficiency. Monitor telephony and network systems to proactively identify and resolve issues.

Maintain accurate technical documentation, system diagrams, and knowledge-base articles. Follow established Incident Management and Change Management processes. Serve as a primary escalation point for complex telephony technical issues.

Required Skills & Experience: 2+ years of experience with Avaya on-premise PBX systems. 2+ years of experience administering VoIP and Unified Communications platforms. 2+ years of experience with SIP, RTP, QoS, dial plans, call routing, and voice gateway technologies.

2+ years of experience troubleshooting voice quality, call routing, carrier connectivity, and E911 services. 2+ years of experience with telecommunications infrastructure, including voice circuits, Session Border Controllers (SBCs), and PSTN integration. Preferred Skills: Experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise cloud-based telephony solutions.

Experience migrating from on-premise telephony platforms to cloud-based services. Experience with enterprise unified communications and cloud telephony architecture. Experience working with telecommunications carriers and vendors.

Education Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
