As an Entry-Level Telecommunications Technician (Testman 80), you'll embark on a journey to develop a wide range of skills while working with state-of-the-art systems that keep our operations running smoothly.
Job Purpose
Technician position for New England Telecommunications Operations Center (NETOC) in Northboro, MA.
This technical position will work hand in glove with the New England Telecom field technicians to ensure reliable operations of the critical communications systems required for National Grid to operate and maintain the distribution and transmission network. This position is based out of our Northboro facility and will fall in line with Worcester Telecom technicians' work schedule. This position will be responsible to install, update, configure and maintain all current and future critical telecommunications systems, to include but not limited to; RF systems, fiber optics hardware and control systems, SCADA backhaul infrastructure, truck radio systems as well as the associated test equipment.
Key Accountabilities
  • Required to work a reasonable amount of planned and emergency overtime.
  • Required to report to work in all types of weather.
  • Work with outside vendors when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Install, construct, modify, operate and maintain various types of electronic systems and equipment including: wireless (radio/microwave), packet technology, control, and fiber optics.
  • Interpret technical diagrams and instructions; maintain legible, complete, accurate records and documentation.
  • Safely and effectively use all tools and equipment required to perform the work.
  • Accept and satisfactorily complete training in various types of electronic systems and equipment including: wireless (radio/microwave), packet technology, control, and fiber optics.

Qualifications
  • Associates Degree in Electrical, Electro-Mechanical or Electronics Engineering, or 10 years of relevant industry work experience.
  • Have or obtain technical certification of FCC General Radio Class License, Elements 1&3, within (12) months of the date of hire.
  • Be willing and able to advance to the position of NETOC Senior Technician.
  • Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot using simple and complex test equipment, schematics, diagrams and instruction manuals.
  • Demonstrate a mechanical aptitude for fine work.
  • Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Provide an acceptable means of off-hour contact by telephone.
  • Possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle operator's license.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
  • Must be in good physical condition to drive and work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders; may be required to stand, stoop, kneel, bend, or squat for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to fifty (50) pounds.
