Entry Level Tech Sales information

What is an entry level tech sales job?

Entry level tech sales jobs are positions designed for individuals new to the technology sales field, often requiring little to no prior sales experience. These roles typically involve tasks such as prospecting potential clients, qualifying leads, and supporting more senior sales staff through administrative work and customer outreach. Entry level tech sales representatives are responsible for learning about the company's technology products or services and communicating their value to potential customers. This job often serves as a stepping stone to more advanced sales roles, with opportunities for professional growth, skill development, and higher earnings based on performance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level tech sales professional?

To thrive as an Entry Level Tech Sales professional, you need a basic understanding of technology products, strong communication skills, and typically a bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software like Salesforce and sales enablement tools is commonly required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, resilience, and a results-driven attitude help individuals excel in building relationships and meeting targets. These abilities are crucial for connecting with clients, effectively managing sales pipelines, and driving revenue growth in a competitive market.

What are some typical challenges faced by entry level tech sales professionals, and how can they overcome them?

Entry-level tech sales professionals often encounter challenges such as learning complex product features, building product knowledge quickly, and handling rejection from potential clients. Additionally, breaking into competitive markets and meeting ambitious sales targets can be demanding. To overcome these hurdles, new hires should take advantage of training programs, seek mentorship from experienced colleagues, and focus on developing strong communication and active listening skills. Proactively asking for feedback and continuously improving your approach are also key strategies for early success in tech sales.

Can I get into entry level tech sales with no experience?

Entry level tech sales positions often do not require prior experience and focus on communication skills, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn. Candidates may benefit from basic knowledge of sales techniques, customer service, or familiarity with sales tools like CRM software. Training is typically provided on the job to develop product knowledge and sales strategies.

How do you get started in entry level tech sales?

To start in entry level tech sales, candidates should develop strong communication and customer service skills, gain basic knowledge of the products or services being sold, and consider obtaining relevant certifications such as Certified Inside Sales Professional (CISP). Entry-level roles often require a high school diploma or equivalent and may involve on-the-job training, with some positions valuing familiarity with CRM tools like Salesforce.

How much do entry-level tech sales make?

Entry-level tech sales representatives typically earn between $40,000 and $60,000 annually, including base salary and commissions. Compensation can vary based on location, company size, and individual performance, with some earning higher through sales incentives and bonuses.

Job description

About Purple Sales Solutions

At Purple Sales, we help tech companies grow faster in their chosen markets - whether in the US, Canada, or Europe. Since 2018, we’ve partnered with over 100 tech brands to accelerate pipeline growth and close large deals. We go beyond appointment setting. Our approach combines strategy, execution, and deep involvement in the sales cycle - from lead generation through to the close.

The Role

We’re looking for an experienced Sales Development Executive to join our team in Canada. This is not an entry-level role, we’re looking for professionals who know the rhythm of outbound sales, are confident on the phones, and thrive in high-performance environments (ideally with agency experience).

In this role, you’ll be responsible for generating qualified meetings with decision-makers for our technology clients, using a proven multi-channel approach (calls, emails, LinkedIn, and more). You’ll leverage provided prospect lists while bringing your own expertise in prospecting, lead qualification, and relationship building.

What You’ll Do

  • Drive outbound activity to generate qualified meetings for our tech clients in the US and Canada.
  • Confidently pitch and qualify prospects, engaging with executives and C-level decision-makers.
  • Work with our Account Management team to execute targeted campaigns and strategies.
  • Use our tech stack to track activities, maintain CRM hygiene, and report results accurately.
  • Contribute ideas, feedback, and best practices to continuously improve client outcomes.

What We’re Looking For

  • 2+ years experience in SDR/BDR or sales development roles (agency experience strongly preferred).
  • Proven success in cold calling and outbound lead generation.
  • Strong understanding of US and Canadian markets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
  • Ability to engage and persuade senior executives over the phone and via digital channels.
  • Results-driven, ambitious, and comfortable working toward clear targets.
  • Fast learner who thrives in a collaborative, high-growth environment.

What We Offer

  • Base salary + commissions, with rapid progression opportunities based on performance.
  • Access to leadership and a fast track to senior roles for top performers.
  • Training and support in consultative sales, advanced prospecting, and tech tools.
  • A collaborative, growth-focused culture where initiative and results are rewarded.

Why Purple?

  • We’re growing fast and want ambitious people who grow with us.
  • We believe in empathy, teamwork, and supporting our clients and teammates to succeed.
  • We offer the chance to work with leading global tech companies while shaping how B2B sales is done.
