Job description

Job Summary:
Assist the Food Service Coordinator in maintaining a successful school nutrition program by preparing and serving food, operating the point-of-sale system, maintaining sanitation standards, completing kitchen cleaning duties, and assisting with inventory, ordering, and daily operations in compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Pass a criminal background check for before hire
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred for entry-level position.
  • Food service experience preferred.
  • Computer, cashiering, and knife skills helpful.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical duties required for the position.

REPORTS TO:

  • Food Service Director

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and serve meals for the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs using safe food handling procedures.
  • Set up and stock serving lines, equipment, and supplies needed for meal service.
  • Check food quality, portion sizes, and temperatures prior to and during service.
  • Follow federal meal pattern requirements and serving guidelines for all grade levels.
  • Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system and process meal payments accurately.
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, storing, rotating, and inventorying food and supplies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of dishes, trays, equipment, tables, floors, sinks, refrigerators, freezers, ovens, tilt skillets, storage areas, and other kitchen facilities.
  • Remove trash and waste from kitchen and serving areas.
  • Assist with opening and closing kitchen procedures, including cleaning, stocking, and storage.
  • Complete required daily paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Cross-train and rotate through all kitchen positions, including assisting with lead or manager duties when needed.
  • Follow all district, county, state, and federal sanitation and safety regulations.
  • Maintain appropriate workplace professionalism and effective communication with students, staff, coworkers, and administrators.
  • Follow oral and written instructions and complete assigned tasks independently and efficiently.
  • Take scheduled breaks as directed by the Food Service Coordinator.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
