Job description

Hunt Valley Environmental, LLC (HVE) is a small environmental engineering firm located in Westmoreland County, PA. HVE has a diverse group of private, public and non-profit clients in Western Pennsylvania.
Overview: We are seeking an entry level Civil Engineer who will support the planning, design, and permitting of sustainable site development projects by assisting with site visits, data collection, technical documentation, and regulatory compliance under the guidance of senior staff. Core responsibilities include preparing engineering plans and reports, developing permit applications, and ensuring projects meet environmental and quality standards while contributing to innovative solutions that minimize environmental impact.
Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with project managers and senior engineers to plan, design, and oversee sustainable site development, grading, and construction projects that align with HVE's mission of environmental stewardship.
  • Conduct site visits, surveys, and inspections to collect and compile data on environmental resources, ensuring projects meet and exceed regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Prepare clear, concise reports and technical documentation that support environmental permitting, compliance, and project execution.
  • Develop design plans, specifications, and cost estimates for infrastructure improvements, with a focus on sustainable and innovative solutions.
  • Review subdivision, land development, grading, and zoning plans, including the development and review of stormwater management and erosion and sediment control plans to minimize environmental impact.
  • Prepare and submit federal, state, and local permit applications, including NPDES and waterway permits, ensuring compliance with all environmental regulations.
  • Provide construction observation and field engineering services to verify adherence to environmental and quality standards.
  • Assist with grant and funding applications to support environmentally responsible initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Engineer Manager

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an accredited institution, or equivalent.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (EIT) registration or ability to obtain within one year.
  • 0-2 years' experience; consulting experience is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to clients and prepare technical reports.
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability, quality, and continuous improvement in engineering practices.
  • Physically able to perform fieldwork and travel as required; valid driver's license.
  • Proficient in MicroStation or AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Civil 3D, GIS, hydraulic/hydrologic modeling, or other engineering software is beneficial.
  • Team player with strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
