No previous survey experience is required. We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and the ability to follow direction in the field.

As a Survey Rodman, you'll support our survey team on active construction projects throughout the Charleston area. You'll assist with field measurements, construction staking, equipment setup, and general survey support while learning how surveying plays an important role in building roads, highways, commercial sites, ports, and other major infrastructure projects.

About Banks Construction Company

We are proud to be a local company with deep roots in the community and a strong focus on safety, teamwork, and doing quality work. Our core values are Safety, Integrity, Team, and Excellence, and our team lives those values every day on our jobsites.

About the Survey Division

The Survey Division supports our grading, paving, and heavy civil construction operations by helping ensure projects are built accurately and according to plan. Our survey team uses tools and technology such as prism poles, measuring equipment, total stations, robotics, GPS, and machine control systems.

Survey crews play an important role in the successful construction of large infrastructure projects, including highways, commercial site developments, and port facilities. This role is a great way to learn the basics of surveying, construction layout, project plans, and field technology.

What You'll Do

As an entry-level Survey Rodman, you'll assist the Survey Superintendent, Survey Crew Chiefs, and other team members with field survey operations. You'll receive hands-on training and support while learning the role. You may help with:

  • Loading and unloading surveying equipment into field trucks
  • Carrying and setting up survey tools and equipment
  • Holding and operating a prism pole or survey rod as directed
  • Assisting with measuring lines, grades, and elevations
  • Helping collect field measurements used to guide construction work
  • Supporting construction staking and reference point setup
  • Driving hubs and setting survey points as directed
  • Assisting with machine control setup and monitoring
  • Helping clear brush or small obstructions to establish survey lines
  • Performing safety or flagging duties when needed
  • Taking care of company tools, equipment, and property
  • Keeping basic records of daily field activities
  • Following directions from Survey Crew Chiefs and supervisors
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned
What You'll Learn

This role is designed for someone who wants to learn and grow. In this position, you'll gain exposure to:

  • Surveying and construction layout basics
  • How roads, highways, sites, and infrastructure projects are built
  • Reading and understanding project plans over time
  • Using field measuring tools and survey equipment
  • Working safely around active construction sites and heavy equipment
  • Supporting GPS and machine control technology
  • Building a long-term career path in surveying or heavy civil construction
What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is dependable, willing to learn, and ready to work hard. The ideal candidate:

  • Wants to build a career in construction, surveying, or field operations
  • Enjoys working outdoors and being part of a team
  • Has a strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Is willing to learn and take direction
  • Has good attention to detail and accuracy
  • Is comfortable with basic math and measurements
  • Can work safely around active jobsites, heavy equipment, and traffic
  • Can work in outdoor conditions, including heat and humidity
  • Can lift and carry up to 55 lbs. as needed
  • Is comfortable walking, standing, and moving around jobsites throughout the day
  • Has a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Shows up on time and is ready to work each day

Previous survey or construction experience is helpful, but not required. We are willing to train the right person.
