Job description

Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and Wednesday, Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager. The GBH Production Group oversees GBH production and post-production operations and is comprised of two divisions: GBH Studios which manage and staff studio and EFP production, Fraser Studio operations, GBH public spaces, and the remote studio at Boston Public Library. GBH OutPost, which provides post-production services, including color-grading and online, audio mixing and sweetening, sound booth recording, and duplication/encoding operations.

Position Title: Freelance Audio Engineer (Post-Production & Studio Operations)Affiliation: NABET UnionPosition Overview

We are seeking a versatile Freelance NABET Audio Engineer to join our team. Primary responsibilities focus on audio post-production utilizing Pro Tools for both internal GBH productions and external client projects. In addition to post-production, this role involves cross-functional support for studio operations and basic technical maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Audio Post-Production & Mixing: Edit, track-lay, mix, and sweeten audio for broadcast and digital non-broadcast media using Pro Tools.
  • Voiceover & Sound Design: Engineer narration sessions, design sound effects when needed, and deliver final mix deliverables compliant with industry broadcast standards.
  • Collaborative Workflow: Partner closely with Senior Post Production Manager and Post-Production Supervisors to achieve the creative and technical vision for each project.
  • Studio & Technical Support: Assist with studio and EFP live sessions and other duties as assigned.
  • Adaptability: Work flexibly across multiple technical roles within The Production Group (cross-training provided).
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience: 5–10 years of professional experience in audio post-production and studio recording environments.
  • Technical Mastery: Advanced proficiency in Pro Tools, audio plug-ins, signal flow, and technical audio processing for broadcast standards.
  • Mindset: Strong customer-service orientation, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative approach.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to adapt to varied technical assignments and learn internal workflows.
