Job description

At Matrix PDM Engineering we strive to recruit, hire and develop high caliber Engineering graduates for our team. New college graduates will be based in one of our engineering offices; this role can be filled in either our Tulsa, OK or Pennsylvania, PA office. After training and establishing knowledge in basic work processes specific to the Shell & Plate Department, a Shell & Plate Engineer I may be required to spend extended periods on industrial construction project sites, supporting facilitating the interface between the jobsite and home office engineering staff.
Job Summary
The Engineer I - Shell & Plate is responsible for performing design and analysis work for liquid storage structures, specialty vessels, and foundations using sound engineering principles. Typical applications include aboveground storage tanks, LNG storage terminals, low temp storage such as Propane/Butane, Ammonia tanks and liquid hydrogen spheres, above ground storage tanks, spheres, vacuum chambers and clarifiers etc. This role works on individual tasks in a collaborative team of engineers and designers to directly support various field and fabrication offices.
Essential Functions
  • Actively supports the Company's commitment to safety and its "Core Values."
  • Represents the Company at all times with high moral standards while adhering to the Company's "Code of Business Conduct and Ethics."
  • Acquires limited knowledge and develops basic skills.
  • Performs engineering design and calculations work for structures in liquid storage terminals for steel and concrete structures and their appurtenances.
  • Perform analysis work including structural, vibration, seismic and thermal loading, and other analysis as required.
  • Prepares portions of project documents, edits specifications, develops design sketches, etc.
  • Evaluates, selects and applies standard techniques, procedures and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional projects with few complex features.
  • Communicates and transfers engineering data to aid field staff and craft.
  • Communicates and transfers field issues to the engineering group to improve engineering deliverables for efficient fabrication, erection, installation and testing of instruments, electrical equipment, pressure vessels, storage tanks, piping and equipment.
  • Documents and assists in the resolution of technical issues that arise at the jobsite.
  • Work on special projects assigned and directed by supervisor or other Engineers.
  • Performs other related duties, as directed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Civil (Structural) or Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Entry-level Engineer, no experience required. Previous internship experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of strength of materials, mechanics, and structural analysis is required. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Mathcad, AutoCAD, STAAD, and ANSYS is preferred.
  • Cooperates with other team members; interacts with individuals at all organizational levels in a professional manner.
  • Exhibits excellent listening, oral and written skills.
  • Demonstrates good organizational skills and ability to follow directions.
  • Demonstrates a proactive approach and consistently positive demeanor.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft products PowerPoint, Excel, and Word are required. Outlook and Teams preferred.
  • Travel Requirements could include field positions at construction sites throughout North America for extended durations (short term to long term assignments).
  • Overtime may be required, particularly when assigned to project locations.
  • Physical Demands - Light physical effort required to sit or stand, reach, bend, and move about facility (including ladders and stairs).
